Tryout Success!

The 2016.2017 WAVE family grew this  past month with the addition of our first round of girls team s.  The gym was filled with excitement and buzz as ages 10-14 vied for spots on teams.  When it was all said and done 18  teams were formed!  We can't wait to see these teams in action as practices begin this month.

We are excited to see how things shape up for the next round of teams as the 15U were in the gym this past weekend and 16-18U will be here soon!

Weekend 1: Won 7 of their 10 sets in a pool of five, earning them a second place finish
Weekend 2: Placed 2nd in their pool of 4 to lock in their seeding to the Gold Divison 2A.

  • 18 Grey
Weekend 1: The guys battled through the day - improving each game and learned along the way, hungry for the following weekend
    Weekend 2:
Looks like their learning was put into action.  Finishing 3-3 on the weekend, improving, their overall standings and will be in that gold/silver limbo land.

  • 17 Kevin

  • 16 Brennan Weekend 1: The team found their groove early and never looked back - winning their pool without dropping a set. Weekend 2: The undefeated streak continued till some heartbreakers on day 3. Impressive play helped the team earn a 5th place finish in the Gold Division 1A - way to go guys!

  • 16 JonWeekend 1: First weekend jitters seemed at play.  The boys bounced back from some tough losses to give a big effort in their final match, unfortunately losing in three.  They are ready to keep building and working.
Weekend 2: Scores don't always reflect the effort. The team had a lot of fun and smiles through the weekend.  With some great team moments, like taking a game off the top seed in their pool.  They ended up finishing in the Silver Division with moving up in the standings a goal as the season progresses.

  • 15 Chris
Weekend 1: Came out strong with a win in their first and  a split in their second and a hunger for more next weekend.
Weekend 2: A weekend of 3 game back and forth battles - some wins, some loses put the team between the Gold/Silver placing.

Catch all the boys 14-18U  in action November 19th.

Alan Knipe Boys Clinic
On October 15-16 the WAVE gym was host to legendary Long Beach State's and 2012 U.S. Men's National Team head coach, Alan Knipe.  He shared his knowledge of the game to a full house with everyone walking away something to help their game.
More to Volleyball
While scores and finishes often dominate discussion when it comes to sports, the boys teams are dedicated to not only bettering their team on the court through their focused practices, they are learning life skills for success. Skills such as e ffective communication, recognition of those who influence and impact them, getting to know each other as people not just teammates, and discovering the definition of true success, grit, and winning forever are a priority and norm of being on the team.
