Taxation Section
In law school, when I told my friends I was studying tax law, the reaction was always the same: "Really? Why?" Tax law has a bad reputation - boring, math-heavy, or too complex. But in reality, tax law touches so much of what we as lawyers do. Nearly every transaction has tax ramifications, from estate plans to multimillion-dollar mergers and everything in between. How can a practitioner keep on top of it all?
That's where we come in. We in the
Taxation Section are proud to support our fellow VBA members in navigating the tax code to serve our clients.
At the
Summer Meeting this year, we'll join with our colleagues in the Wills, Trusts & Estates Section to host a program on tax issues in estate and gift planning. We also host the
Virginia Tax Practitioners' Roundtable each October in Charlottesville, which, in addition to being one of the last CLE opportunities of the compliance year, features updates from the Virginia Department of Taxation and a roundup of important law changes throughout the year.
I invite you to join the Taxation Section and be part of our growth and evolution. We welcome your enthusiasm and input. If you have questions, please reach out to me or anyone on the
Council. We look forward to seeing you all this summer and beyond.
