Tutor Learner Recognition Event June 8, 2017

Dear  ,

Thank you for making a world of difference!  We are very grateful to you!

The Literacy Connection Staff

Please Note - Certificate Determination Process

The hours you report to the office are used to determine which learners and tutors receive recognition certificates during the end-of-year celebration. The hours are tracked from July through June (10 hours are added to everyone to compensate for May and June hours that have not been reported yet).

Please keep in mind that the later in the fiscal year you start working with a learner the more likely you will not meet the initial recognition point of 50 hours. Some tutors have more than one learner so they are more likely to reach a recognition point faster than a tutor with only one learner.

If you feel that you should have received a certificate this year, attended the recognition celebration and your name was not in the program, please email  Marsha or call 847-742-6565. You can then share what you have in your records with her so that any discrepancies can be identified. She will be happy to provide you with certificates that are due you and your learner(s).

There are several options to submit your volunteer hours:

* On our website using the tutor hours report form
* By email to Marsha
(please click on her name - do not hit reply
   to this message your email will not go directly to Marsha.)
* By phone at 847-742-6565
* At our office located on the second floor of the Gail Borden
Public Library
* By fax at 847-742-6599

If you experience a problem using the form on our website, please contact our office.

We appreciate your service as a Volunteer Tutor for The Literacy Connection. We would not be able to do what we do without the help of people like you!

Scoring and Testing of all learners continues!
Tutor In-service being planned for August 30, 2017

Learn about your learner's test scores!  We have scheduled Wednesday , August 30, 2017 for an in-service where you will be able to review your learner's actual test. There will be a morning and an evening session. More information will be provided in the next tutor communication. Jody and Yadira are continuing to score all the completed tests at this time.

We have almost 200 learners that need to be tested, scored and those scores entered into our database, please be understanding that it would be impossible for Jody to meet one-on-one with our tutors to review each learners' test.
A few comments from our learners in regards to their tutors, in their own words;

"My tutor is special for me because she took her time to teach me to learn English and have the patience to explain me over and over when I do not understand the words. Many thanks Rose for your teaching and for being part of my life."

Would you help spread the word about our need for tutors?
98
Adults Remain On Our Wait List

There are 98  potential learners currently on our waiting list. These learners need to be tested before they can enter the program, and are not ready to be matched. We have a different group of learners who are tested and ready to be matched.

Matching these learners is our priority as they have been waiting the longest for a tutor. We do everything we can to match our tutors and learners as fast as possible. We must find a pair that has the same availability, and this often slows down the process.

If you are currently waiting for a learner, we are working on setting up a match meeting as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

If you have specific questions please feel free to email Jody or Yadira.

New training dates coming soon!
