VHUMC in Panama
Our Boomer Mission team just returned from our third annual trip to Panama where they assisted the ministry of the Panamanian Methodist Church. This year's team consisted of 11 members all between 50 and 70 years old. Six members were from VHUMC where they are all members of the Serendipity Sunday School class. Like our past two trips, the team spent each morning in construction activities to help missionary Rhett Thompson develop a youth camp. This year they focused on building the kitchen and dining hall. Each afternoon they helped to provide recreational activities with area children ages 5-11. The team stayed in very nice cabins on the camp property with fully operating bathrooms!

With four other teams scheduled for construction work this summer, it is hoped the building will be completed by the early fall. VHUMC plans to send another team back to Panama in the spring/summer of 2018, to continue construction for the youth camp. We hope to announce the dates soon and we really hope you will consider coming with us! For more information contact Jim Frazier (769-0126 / [email protected]).
Sunday Evening Worship Series
Come as you are and join us Sunday Evening at 5:00 pm, as we sing, pray, and fellowship together in the Rutland-Memorial Chapel. We are grateful that Mike Harper will be preaching on " Micro and Macro " from Psalm 8. Next Sunday Butch Williams will be preaching.

Make sure to invite your friends for this awesome event!Dads, if you are interested in helping out with this event please contact Jeremiah Stone ([email protected]).

Blessing the VBC Volunteers
We are so grateful to all of the volunteers who take their time to make Vacation Bible Camp an exciting, memorable week for our children. This Sunday, June 11, we will be blessing our volunteers in both of our traditional worship services (8:30 and 11:00 am in the Sanctuary) as well as our contemporary service (11:00 am in Tyson Hall). If you will be volunteering at VBC we hope you can join us during one of these services as we bless this important ministry!
VBC Break Room
We can use your help for the VBC break room. Each year during VBC we provide drinks and snacks for the 250+ volunteers and teen helpers. This year we are in need of 2-liter drinks (Diet Coke, Coke, Sprite, Sunkist, Root beer, etc.). We would also love for you to drop off non-perishable items such as chips, crackers and candy. We have a box designated for this in the church office. If you would like to donate perishable items (fruit, dips, breakfast casseroles, brownies, muffins, donuts, veggie trays ,etc.) we will take those the week of VBC in the Lighthouse kitchen area. Thanks in advance for your help! If you have questions feel free to contact Cindy Tyus (616-7936).

Volunteers Needed for Family Promise
VHUMC was one of the first churches to begin hosting Family Promise when they started many years ago. They are the only organization we know of that keeps families together when they are homeless. VHUMC usually hosts families 3-4 times a year depending on the schedule. Our next week to host is June 18-23. There are many responsibilities during our week as a church host for the families and we are in need of volunteers. There is literally a job for everyone. If you are interested in helping during our host week, please contact one of our coordinators, Rob Armstrong ([email protected]) or Susan Sturdivant ([email protected]) to find the right place for you to serve.
Hannah Prayer Team
The Hannah Prayer Team continues to pray for expectant moms and their new babies, including 3 sets of twins coming in the next few months. If you are expecting a new baby, our prayer team would love the opportunity to pray for you and your family during this time. Please contact Ty Howell ([email protected] / 529-1262) if we can pray for you or if you would like to join our team to pray for these young mothers and their babies.
Helping Hands in the Hills Planning
The Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce and City of Vestavia Hills are planning the third annual Helping Hands in the Hills "day of service" to assist our residents (senior citizens, disabled, etc.) who need a helping hand with minor projects around their homes. This community service day will be on Saturday, September 9, but they want to identify needs and assistance teams now. Please be thinking about your volunteer teams and/or possible community service projects to be considered. Please contact the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce ([email protected] / 823-5011) for more information.
