Bailey Lake Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting set for June 15
The city will be celebrating the grand opening of Bailey Park with a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 280 W. Hidden Creek Parkway.
 
New improvements to the eight-acre lake and picnic area include 20 additional parking spaces, a restroom/pavilion, a fishing pier, 10-foot concrete trail along the east side of the lake continuing north to Tinker Trail, plus other amenities including picnic tables and trash cans. 
Early Voting for runoff election continues; Election Day June 17
Early voting for the June 17 runoff election for Place 4 on the Burleson City Council continues June 12 - 13. The candidates are Pam Grant Tatum and Todd Hulsey.

You can vote 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, June 9 and 7 a.m.-7 p.m., June 12-13 (Monday-Tuesday). Election Day is Saturday, June 17, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. All voting will take place at Burleson City Hall, 141 W. Renfro St.

At the May 6 general election, three candidates were vying for the Place 4 seat currently held by Matt Aiken, who chose not to run for reelection. Tatum garnered 38.27 percent of the vote and Hulsey received 42.73 percent. In order to win the seat outright, the person with the highest number of votes would have had to earn 50 percent of the total vote, plus one. Shannan Sutter received 19 percent of the votes for Place 4.
First Hot Sounds of Summer concert tonight; street closures 
Another installment of the Hot Sounds of Summer concert series will take place tonight. The free  90-minute concert in Old Town starts at 7:30 p.m. with Wayne the Train Hancock.  

Street closures in Old Town Burleson (124 W. Ellison St.) will start at 4 p.m. today and every Friday through June 30, come down early and eat at one of the more than half a dozen restaurants, then set up your lawn chairs and blankets in the street. Food and drink are allowed at the concerts, but patrons are strongly discouraged from bringing glass bottles, due to safety reasons.  More information
Animal Shelter Special 
Burleson Animal Shelter is currently  at capacity and offering a 'start of summer special'. All animals are available for adoption at $85 or less. Summer is a great time to adopt a new pet, just think of all the time you will get to spend together soaking up the sunshine-filled days.

The adoption price includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations and rabies certificate. Please visit them today at 775 SE John Jones Drive. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesday - Friday and 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturdays. You can view available animals online or on the Burleson Animal Shelter's Facebook page.
Lifeguard your Child 
Summer is here and that means there will be a lot of children around water. Burleson Fire Department wants to make sure adults are keeping their eyes on children at all times. 

Here are some great tips for water safety/ drowning prevention.

Meet Pearl and Frank our pets of the week.

These two Chihuahua mixes need to to find a great home and be adopted together. They are very sweet would love to curl up with you and watch some TV. They already have all their shots and are spayed/neutered, their adoption fee is $20 for both.

Cheri Harrison is this month's bank draft drawing winner! She was awarded a $100 credit to her City of Burleson utility account (water/trash/curbside recycling).The drawing is an incentive for utilizing the bank draft feature to pay your City of Burleson utility account. All customers who choose (or currently use) this option are entered into the monthly drawing.
 
Sign up now so you have a chance to be one of the prize winners this fiscal year. Simply fill out an application online or stop by the Utility Customer Service office located at Burleson City Hall, 141 W. Renfro St., 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
