 We learned on Friday that Florida Gov. Rick Scott line-item vetoed funding for all incubator and accelerator programs in Florida, including the $1.2MM state grant for FAU Tech Runway. The vetoes are part of more than $400 million that Scott used his line-item veto authority to cut from the $83 billion budget approved by state lawmakers last month.
Our funding for the upcoming fiscal year will come from a variety of sources, including direct support from FAU, foundation grants, corporate donors, and Advisory Board member dues. During the FY15-16 period, we experienced a similar outcome and FAU provided $825K in direct financial support to FAU Tech Runway.
Overall this has been a great legislative session for students, FAU and the entire State University System (SUS). The SUS received excellent levels of funding and as a result FAU will receive performance funding, Public Education Capital Outlay funds for two projects (Jupiter Research Building and Cooling Tower Replacement), and additional financial support to hire faculty and increase excellence within our graduate education programs.
We look forward to working with the Governor and legislature to ensure continued success in 2018 and keep FAU on track to become the nation's fastest improving public university.

Candidate.Guru Forms Strategic Partnership

Candidate.Guru, a Venture Class 2 company, has formed a strategic partnership with KontactIntelligence (Ki).
Ki, which supports hospital and healthcare clients, will gain access to Candidate.Guru technology that helps predict the culture fit between job candidates and the people they will be working with.
Forbes magazine conducted a recent study that shows 60% of new hires fail because of a bad match with the hiring manager and company. Candidate.Guru is solving this problem.

NeuroPharmalogics Nominated for Lifees
|
NeuroPharmalogics, a Venture Class 4 company, is a Lifees award nominee. Life Sciences South Florida will be hosting an awards ceremony at the eMerge Americas conference in Miami next Monday.
The organization honors life science companies who have led the way through partnerships with students, faculty, researchers and scientists. Nomination categories include: demonstration of student training and research activities, benefit to the scientific community, and demonstration of community partnership.
