Link to Learning: Trauma-Informed Mentoring

VMP will be taking the lead in ensuring all mentors are trained in understanding Trauma Informed Care. Training opportunities will be announced in a few weeks.

Trauma Informed Care Training will  highlight the symptoms and impact of traumatic experiences on youth and equip mentors in  understanding, recognizing, and responding to the effects of all types of trauma.

Participating in this training will provide you with the following:
  • What is trauma-informed care? Why is it important to know about?
  • What is traumatic stress? How does it affect children's brains and development?
  • How does trauma impact young people? What factors can help?
  • How can you provide trauma-informed care
When mentors and program staff take the initiative to become trauma-informed, they are likely to be in a better position to serve the needs of vulnerable youth.  Check out this article
for a general overview of trauma-informed concepts.
