Dayton Vetoes HHS Budget, Two Sides Continue Negotiations
As anticipated, Gov. Mark Dayton vetoed the Legislature's HHS omnibus budget bill on May 12. The vetoed budget cut $505 million from a variety of state programs. The governor and legislative leaders have been meeting this week to work toward a compromise. At press time, they had not reached an agreement. 
Free Socials Begin Next Week in Twin Cities, Rochester
The MMA's free physicians' socials begin next week with events in the Twin Cities on May 23 and Rochester on May 24. Read more here
Physician Slot Available on MN Comprehensive Health Association Board
Physicians are encouraged to apply for a board position on the Minnesota Comprehensive Health Association (MCHA). The Department of Human Services (DHS) is tasked with selecting two of the 13 members of the board. One of the positions must represent health care providers and the other a hospital. Applications for these positions are being accepted until 5 pm on June 6. Interested individuals can apply through the Secretary of State website. Questions can be sent to Krista O'Connor at DHS.
Nominations Now Open for 2017 MMA Annual Awards
Members are encouraged to nominate their peers, medical students and advocacy champions for one of MMA's four annual awards. Visit the MMA website to make a nomination by June 30. Read more here
