Apportionment Update
As many of you may be aware, our Church Council made the decision in February to withhold our share giving (apportionments) to the denomination because of what was seen as a lack of leadership from our denominational leaders.
Since then we've held two "all church" informational meetings in order to share how that decision was reached and also to listen to the thoughts from the congregation on the issue.
In the March Church Council meeting a motion was made to create an ad hoc committee to discuss what SUMC could do with the apportionment payments that would be set aside. Their task was to take into consideration the feedback from the congregation and Church Council, as well as some developments from the denominational level.
At our May Church Council meeting it was decided to immediately begin paying a "tithe" or 10% of our income towards our apportionments. This tithe for apportionments is approximately $47,000 for 2017. The remaining balance of the funds budgeted for apportionments (approximately $30,000) will be directed to a variety of missions that our church currently supports: Habitat, PET, Mexico School and the Jalingo Orphanage in Nigeria to name a few. Additionally a percentage of the dollars could be available for local missions needs. Watch for a full list of missions that were suggested when the May Church Council minutes are published. Our church has initiated and maintained mission partnerships over the years by working directly with the mission partner in the field and/or financial support. If you have a passion for missions and want to ensure that we focus on missions that continue this legacy, please plan to attend the next mission meeting on June 15. Brian Nekola, chair of the mission committee, will put a meeting notice in the Dove to confirm the date and time of that meeting.
Please continue to pray for our local church and the Methodist denomination as we move into the future seeking God's purpose and direction.
Tina Steffens Chair, Church Council

Vacation Bible School Registration
Now is the time to register for 2017
Vacation Bible School. Registration
forms may be picked up in the lobby
of the church or in the church office. VBS dates are June 19th-22nd, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
This year our VBS Mission Project
is to stock the Prairie High School Grab and Go Pantry! Any brand or flavor is appreciated. Did you know some students do not have food to eat at home? The week of VBS we will be collecting granola bars and fruit snacks to share with Prairie High School students in the fall. Jesus BUILT US FOR A PURPOSE and part of that purpose is to help others. Together the SUMC children can reach out to
help other children in need!
If you have any question or would like to volunteer to help, please contact Daryl Jans or Heather Nekola.

Coordinating Our Building Use
Are you needing a place at the church for a committee meeting or event? Please note that ALL scheduling of the building's use must be cleared and scheduled through Julie in the church office. This is not a "permission" issue, but we do need this central location for keeping track of the building's activities (we are thankful to be able to host a growing number of Boy and Girl Scouts this year!). Just
drop an email or phone the office (848-7213), so there are no surprises. Thank you!
