Greater Together: Annual Youth Worker Conference
WACYCP annual youth worker conference

On Thursday, June 1, the Wisconsin Association of Child and Youth Care Professionals (WACYCP) will host its annual youth worker conference entitled "Greater Together."  Early Bird registration rates have been extended to May 24th. 

This year's keynote speaker is Muhibb Dyer, Milwaukee's own spoken word poet and co-founder of Flood the Hood with Dreams. Mr. Dyer was profiled by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in 2016 (click here).

Workshops topics include:
              • Building Core Competencies for Youth Development Professionals
              • Preventing Human Trafficking
              • A Neuroscience Perspective to Activate, Boost and Reinforce Resilience

53206 Drug-Free Communities Youth Council

Join us for our first official meeting!

Youth grades 6-12 are invited to learn more about the 53206 Drug-Free Communities Project, meet other youth in the city who are working to make a positive impact and brainstorm solutions.

Youth who join the 53206 Drug-Free Communities Youth Council will have a chance to:
  • Develop their professional skills through various workshops and trainings
  • Inform other youth about issues and concerns that are close to them
  • Advocate for positive change in the community
  • And more!

A Blueprint for Peace

You have a unique opportunity to be part of the solution to violence in Milwaukee.

In November, more than one hundred members of the Milwaukee community provided input about what they believed were the primary risk factors that led to violence in our city.  They also prioritized the factors that make individuals more resilient and can help to prevent future violence.  For more information about the launch event, check out the MKE Neighborhood News Service's article.

Now you are invited to review a draft of the proposed MKE Violence Prevention Plan and provide your input.  Is something missing?  Are you part of an organization or coalition already working to achieve some of the objectives listed?   Click here  to review a draft of the MKE Violence Prevention Plan.

NAMIWalks Greater Milwaukee
 
One out of four Americans will suffer from a mental health disorder this year- and the NAMI Greater Milwaukee Walk seeks to highlight this staggering statistic.

When you walk with NAMI, you join the movement to raise awareness of mental illness and raise funds for our mission to help individuals and families right here in our community.

Come join the community and support the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Greater Milwaukee this Saturday 5/20/17 starting at 11am at Veterans Park on the lakefront. Click here to register and for more information.
Improve Nonprofit Relationships With Elected Officials

Get tips for building positive relationships with local and state elected representatives. Learn how can you build strong relationships with elected officials that can benefit your agency and still stay above the fray of politics.
Panelists include local and state elected representatives led by Milwaukee County Supervisor Peggy West and Wisconsin State Representative Evan Goyke.

Youth Program Facilitator and Community Outreach Associate 

The Parenting Network is hiring a part-time worker for this summer. The position pays $10.50 an hour. Those interested should email De'Shawn Ewing . 

This program will provide resources to youth and residents, start conversations, build relationships, and disseminate PHAT (Promoting Health Among Teens) information where youth and residents live.

Prevention and Diversion Policy Coordinator

The Bureau of Youth Services at the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families is hiring. The Prevention and Diversion Policy Coordinator position will oversee the Brighter Futures prevention program and lead our efforts on delinquency prevention.
