NEWS FROM THE GW CANCER CENTER GW-News
GW Cancer Center Seeks Cancer Survivor Input -  Do you know genderqueer, transgender, or female cancer survivors willing to share their experiences? We are conducting focus groups and interviews with survivors to inform the development of a cancer care provider training and patient education materials to promote culturally sensitive communication and patient engagement. We want to make sure that the perspectives and needs of diverse cancer patients are well-represented in this work, especially those with minority racial, ethnic, religious and sexual or gender identities. Please share our flyers about our education research study in both  English and Spanish . Participants will be compensated with a $50 Amazon gift card following completion.

June 4th is National Cancer Survivors Day®  It's not too late to leverage GW's National Cancer Survivors Day® Social Media Toolkit to share survivorship information with your social media audiences. Download the toolkit to get started.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health Launches its LGBT Provider Toolkit on LiveHealthyPA

The Pennsylvania Department of Health launched the Lesbian, G ay,  Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Provider Toolkit on LiveHealthyPA to provide resources for health care professionals and organizations to learn how to improve relationships with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Asexual (LGBTQA) patients. The LGBTQA community was identified as a disparate population in Pennsylvania through  a pilot project survey that assessed the prevalence of tobacco use, other chronic disease risk behaviors and determinants of  health  in the LGBT community in regions throughout Pennsylvania. Findings led to the development of the LGBT Provider toolkit and a webinar on Improving LGBT Patient Provider Relationships. The toolkit houses the pilot survey results and the archived webinar, as well as state and national LGBT community resources. Learn more about LiveHealthyPA and the LGBT Provider Toolkit.

Montana Cancer Control Program Includes Strategies on Psychosocial Support in its Newly Released Five-Year Strategic Plan

Psychosocial support is essential for people experiencing a life-altering  health challenge such as cancer.
The Montana Cancer Control Program has included new strategies in its Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan (2016-2021) to increase the number of cancer patients, families and caregivers who are connected with psychosocial and rehabilitative services in the state, including American Indian reservations. The strategies focus on collaborating with partn ers to (1) address gaps in non-clinical support services and resources, and (2) collect and disseminate information regarding psychosocial and rehabilitative services. Strategies dedicated to youths and their families are also included in the plan's pediatric cancer section. Learn more about Montana's plans to reduce the burden of cancer and provide resources and services across the cancer continuum  here .
