Victory: Brockway camping resort cancelled, land to be sold to U.S. Forest Service
The proposed Brockway camping resort has been cancelled, with the land to be sold to the U.S. Forest Service. This news follows years of advocacy by the League against proposed massive developments on the pristine ridgeline land, a remote location relative to Tahoe's communities.

League condemns Placer County approval of Martis Valley West project
Although the Forest Service's purchase of Brockway is a win for the Lake, the following week the Placer County Board of Supervisors disappointed community members by approving the controversial Martis Valley West proposal. Placer County's Planning Commission had advised rejecting the project, in part because of its negative impacts to Tahoe.

"This is bad news for Lake Tahoe," said League Executive Director Darcie Goodman Collins, PhD. "By approving Martis Valley West, Placer County is consenting to threats to Tahoe for which no solution has been proposed."
 
Senate passes the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act
Lake Tahoe Restoration Act advances

The U.S. Senate has passed the Water Resources Development Act, which includes the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act of 2015 (S.1724). We are grateful for the hard work of our Senate delegation: Senators Dean Heller, Harry Reid, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer.

The U.S. House of Representatives must act next for this vital measure to protect Lake Tahoe to advance. This legislation would provide critical funds for environmental restoration projects, the control of aquatic invasive species and to reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfire. 
 
Keep Tahoe Blue policy team grows
The League welcomes attorney Marissa Fox as our newest staff member. As our policy associate, Marissa brings extensive legal and nonprofit expertise. Most recently having served as executive director for Oceans Forward, Marissa has provided policy analysis and legal counsel in both private practice and for conservation nonprofits such as Surfrider.

19th Annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day

Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day

Nearly 100 community members pitched in at the Angora Burn Area as part of the League's largest annual restoration event. The efforts of these volunteers expands on the great work by the U.S. Forest Service to restore the devastated area. Watch to see how their efforts Keep Tahoe Blue.

League to Save Lake Tahoe offices, South Lake Tahoe
Pipe Keepers is a citizen science program to address the threat of stormwater pollution entering Lake Tahoe. Runoff from rain storms and snowmelt is the largest source of pollution that degrades Lake clarity. League staff will train you to survey local neighborhoods and collect stormwater samples during rain and snowmelt events.
