Yankees honor Tyler Cashman, Points for Pain

U.S. Pain's director of pediatric fundraising and awareness, 14-year-old Tyler Cashman, was one of five individuals honored by the Yankees during HOPE Week. Tyler was presented with $10,000 for the program Points for Pain, which benefits children with chronic pain.  Read more.
Top five ways to get involved with PAM 2017!

Now more than ever, chronic pain deserves awareness. U.S. Pain staff are excited to see how volunteers will apply themselves to help make Pain Awareness Month (PAM) a success this September.  Read more.

Action needed on proposed changes to federal pain assessment

In response to the opioid epidemic, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed concerning changes to pain management questions on an influential survey, called the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Survey.  Read more.
Tell Congress "No" on amended AHCA

U.S. Pain is encouraging members to contact Congress members, asking them to reject the House's version of the American Health Care Act (AHCA), which will result in 23 million losing coverage and increased costs for pre-existing conditions.  Read more.
NPS event provides encouraging update
 
Stakeholders in the pain community eagerly tuned in to a daylong event, "Implementation of the National Pain Strategy (NPS) Listening Session," on May 11.   Read more.
State Advocacy
"Don't Switch Me" campaign launches

The U.S. Pain Foundation is pleased to announce its new campaign, "Don't Switch Me," to fight back against insurers forcing patients off their clinician-prescribed medications onto cheaper, potentially inferior ones.

Telemedicine: Breaking down barriers to care

Telemedicine, which connects patients and clinicians virtually, is one of U.S. Pain's new state advocacy priorities.  Read more.
Iowa patients celebrate fail first reform

Through the efforts of the Iowa Fail First Coalition, of which U.S. Pain is a member, Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad signed into law a bill allowing clinicians a clear process to override fail first .   Read more.
Pain Warrior of the Month:
Jeannette Rotondi
Location: Jackson, New Jersey
Age:  40 years old
Pain warrior role:  Ambassador since 2013
Conditions:  I live with Chronic Migraine and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which has caused many comorbidities, including arthritis, TMJ, colonic dysmotility, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, spinal stenosis, joint instability, myofascial pain, multiple tendon tears, etc.
Fun fact:  My nickname is Corky.
Favorite tip:  Find anything that will make you smile. This is a painful and difficult journey, so find anything that will give you some joy, in spite of the pain.

As an ambassador, Rotondi has played in large role in migraine disease awareness for the month of June. She also has held multiple fundraising events to benefit the foundation. Rotondi's go-getter attitude and her dedication to raising awareness of pain conditions exemplifies the meaning of being a pain warrior.
