If your organization is anything like mine, professional development opportunities don't come along as often as you might like. Even those of us who work for larger organizations find it hard to justify the time away from the office and the cost of traveling to major conferences. I've been blessed to work for employers who have allowed me to invest in an AFP membership for my entire fundraising career and have taken advantage of many local training opportunities but the international conference had always been out of reach.
