ST. PHILIP PAGES AND BLOGS

Principal Notes

Dear Parents,

The Jogathon and Health Fair on Friday were so much fun and very successful.  A big thank you to Janet Valenzuela, Tracey Karadizian, and Michelle Mapp for chairing these events.  Your hard work resulted in a great day for our students.

Today and tomorrow our 8th graders present their Capstone Projects to the faculty.  These projects, the result of year long effort, are a showcase of years of St. Philip education.  The topics range from brain concussions in football. the impact of sports psychology on athletes, and the importance of the National Park System, to immigrants importance to our country and the obesity epidemic in the United States.  The 8th graders researched their topics for the first part of the school year and spent the second part of the year designing and implementing a project that represented their thesis.  They've made movies, podcasts, and websites, as well as written children's books, printed 3D models, and painted artistic representations.

If you know an 8th grader, or see one walking around, be sure to stop them and ask them about their project and congratulate them on putting the time and effort in to such a worthwhile task.  I know that they are feeling a sense of relief that it is over but also a sense of accomplishment at having achieved their goal. They'll appreciate your good words.

Have a wonderful week,
Jennifer
