Students Address Concerns About Self-Driving Vehicles

Roman Kuropas, president of Innova EV, came to Forest Glen with his company's electric vehicle named DASH. As part of a Problem-Based Learning unit, 5th graders have been studying self-driving vehicles and the concerns of manufacturers and consumers. Innova EV will be producing a self-driving version of the DASH making Mr. Kuropas a perfect speaker to help build background knowledge for the students. The 5th graders learned that safety, environmental impact, and accessibility are the biggest concerns around self-driving vehicles. This PBL unit culminated in a solution showcase that was attended by Innova EV, DuPage County Department of Transportation, BP, as well as parents and a school board member. The students were highly engaged in this timely topic and enjoyed working with experts in the industry.
