Coal Tar Prohibited in Asphalt Sealants

As of January 1, 2017, Spring Lake Township has an ordinance prohibiting the use of asphalt sealants which contain coal tar or more than one percent polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by weight. This ordinance was enacted to protect, restore and preserve the quality of the Township's waters, preserve wildlife and protect the health of Township residents.

Commercial asphalt paving and sealing companies have been notified of this ordinance. If you are performing your own asphalt sealing, be sure to purchase a product that does not contain coal tar. If you have any questions, please contact the Township.
