During Our DPS Day, team members connect to our Shared Core Values, to each other, to our shared work and to our vision, Every Child Succeeds.
A Note from the Superintendent: Our DPS Day is Going Virtual

Dear Team DPS,

Superintendent Tom Boasberg
For the past five years, team members from across DPS -- from teachers to school leaders to bus drivers to finance partners and many more -- have come together to look ahead at the school year and all that's possible during Our DPS Day

It's a tradition that began in 2012, when 1,000 team members collectively voted on and selected our Shared Core Values. And each year since, we have continued to gather together to connect to those values, to each other, to our shared work and to our vision, Every Child Succeeds.

This year, we're excited to expand this opportunity to EVERY member of Team DPS as Our DPS Day is going virtual! On Aug. 16, all teams are encouraged to participate in an interactive viewing session and share their voices as the entire district is connected for an hour and a half.

During Our DPS Day, we will be discussing the state of DPS, the progress we're making toward our goals and how we can all use our Shared Core Values to make a real difference for our kids and each other. This year's theme is well-being, which comes from your feedback in our CollaboRATE engagement survey, and we'll focus on caring for ourselves, our teams and all of DPS.

An Outlook calendar invitation will be sent to all team members soon to hold this date and time. More information will be shared with school leaders and managers to help arrange the viewing sessions and activities for each team.

It will take all of us to reach our vision, Every Child Succeeds, and we all have a role to play. Join Team DPS from 8:30-10 a.m. Aug. 16 to kick off the school year ready to do our part to bring our vision to reality.

Best,
Tom

Living Our DPS Honoree:
Demond Perris
Lead Custodian, Morey Middle School
Students First and Equity

"Demond goes above and beyond for the students at Morey Middle School. He exemplifies our Shared Core Values of Students First and Equity because, in addition to his work, he finds different ways to support and connect with our kids. Demond is an adult kids can count on and he supports the after-school program, Sports Zone, and co-facilitates the Mentoring Black Men class on Wednesday afternoons. On top of that, he is Morey's basketball coach and led the boys' team in a successful season!

Demond strives for Equity with our students of color through his support of the Mentoring Black Men class. In this class, he allows students to explore heavy topics like racism and education through a pedagogical of the oppressed lens. He helps students think critically about societal pressures on men of color and how they can be successful through these adversities.

Demond volunteers and works across a variety of departments -- facilities, sports, after-school programs and discoveries classes. He is a key person in the building and Morey would not be the same without him. It is a privilege to work with him."
