Meet & Greet with Dee Abrams

This month, we're talking to Dee Abrams, mother of ACE-level participant and Howard High junior Alex Abrams. Read on to learn more about this parent's perspective on what the program has meant to her daughter. If you missed last month's issue where we featured Alex, you can catch up on that here.

Q: How and when did you first hear about The First Tee?
A: Our family first heard about The First Tee program in a school newsletter about five years ago at the time we were looking for extracurricular activities for our daughter.

7th Annual Champions Challenge

On May 1, May 8 and May 15, fourth graders from Howard County public schools who participate in The First Tee's  National School Program  came out to Fairway Hills for the 7th Annual Champions Challenge. This fun community event is designed to give 10 students each from 12 participating schools a chance to drive, putt, chip and experience how those life and golf skills they have been learning in physical education classes translate on the greens. A Successful 10th Annual Taste for The First Tee

We are so grateful to our generous supporters who attended the 10th Annual Taste for The First Tee at Turf Valley on April 27 for an evening of dinner, drinks, and live and silent auctions. A big thank you to everyone who made the evening a success by purchasing tickets and tables, bidding on auction items and sponsoring this key fundraiser for our organization. We particularly want to thank our dedicated volunteer planning committee from our board of directors: Phil Bryan, Robert Cardoni, Ben Clements, David Feldman, Luther Johnson, Michelle Lurie, Nicola Morgal, Terry Owens and Chris Sittig, led once again by our tireless committee chair, Michael Bosica of Cushman & Wakefield.

The evening was made especially delicious thanks to the  following restaurants who generously donated "tastes:"
Alexandra's
Eggspectation
Grille 620
Hudson Coastal
Kelsey's
La Palapa
Nora's Kabob
Shannon's Saloon
Ten Oaks Tavern
Tino's Italian Bistro

We are still calculating the total proceeds raised from the event, and appreciate everyone who participated   in support of our character education and life skills programs that help young people be successful in school and life.
