Canadian Institute of Health Research Awards $2 Million for National Rural Research Project!
 
The ACSRC is proud to be a principal researcher of the ECHO Network (Environment, Community, Health Observatory).  This national research project lead by UNBC's Dr. Margot Parkes addresses health, environment and community impact of resource development, with specific emphasis on rural, remote and Indigenous communities.  Dr. Lars Hallstrom, director of the ACSRC,   will work with a regional team that includes key partner           the Battle River Watershed Alliance, based out of                   Camrose,   Alberta.     Lars Hallström, the recipient of over 80 research,
    knowledge mobilization, infrastructure and collaborative
    grants, for this activity-based workshop for people with
    varied experiences in the grant-writing process

Alberta's Living Laboratory Wetlands Project

  This three-year, interdisciplinary research project aims to inform both the economics and science of wetland restoration, using the Nose Creek Watershed in Rocky View County, Alberta, as an on-the-ground living laboratory.  Attached is the Annual update for the project.




Latest News on OPEC Production Cuts

  What is the latest news on OPEC production cuts?  With prices lower over the past week and crude inventories not showing signs of consistent withdrawals, both Saudi Arabia and Russia have come out saying that they could extend their production cuts into 2018.  Other OPEC ministers have stated that they are discussing possibly deepening their cuts.  The next OPEC meeting is scheduled for  May 25 .

Attached is the UAlberta's Alberta School of Business Energy and the Environment weekly energy report.  This week's featured topics include an update on oil sands growth expectations, the narrowing of Canada's trade deficit thanks to energy (and lentils), Canada as hydropower leader and what the results of BC's election could mean for energy..

Alberta Rural Organic Waste to Resources Network Connects 2017 Conference
The Alberta Rural Organic Waste to Resources Network was formed  to share information with rural communities about short rotation woody biomass plantations irrigated with wastewater as a means for communities to produce bio-energy and  treat/dispose of wastewater in an economical  manner.
 AROWRN will be hosting a conference in June in  Camrose summarizing research and rural  communities' experiences with these systems.

BREI Business Retention & Expansion International 2017 Annual Conference
The 2017 conference agenda features a slate of professional speakers discussing industry trends, BRE tactics and strategies, lessons learned from practitioners, and a multi-disciplinary approach to solving BRE challenges.  The conference includes multiple keynote presentations and three professional tracks: professional growth stream, BRE essentials stream, and community building stream.
