BC MLAs Bring Local Government Experience   

Over one-third of the members of the next Legislative Assembly in British Columbia will draw upon prior experience as local elected officials. The preliminary voting results from the 2017 provincial general election show that 31 out of 85 of the current MLAs have served at least one term as a local elected leader. The final election count will be undertaken May 22-24, and will include recounts in the electoral districts of Courtenay-Comox and Vancouver-False Creek. Read more
Tanker Ban Legislation Introduced    

The federal government introduced a bill to ban oil tankers along British Columbia's northern coast on Friday, May 12. Bill C-48, the
Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, will apply to tankers carrying more than 12,500 metric tonnes of crude or other persistent oils, banning them from stopping, loading or unloading within a zone extending from the northern tip of Vancouver Island to the BC-Alaska border. Read more 
Climate and Energy Action Awards

Awards will be presented at the UBCM Convention this September and winners will be profiled in the December edition of Municipal World magazine.
