The Pima JTED Governing Board announced at 1 p.m. today that Kathy Prather will become the District's new Deputy Superintendent on July 1, 2017.
Ms. Prather is currently the Career and Technical Education and JTED Director for the Sunnyside Unified School District, a post she's held since 2012. Prior to joining Sunnyside, she was the CTE Director at Tucson Unified School District. She was promoted to that position in 2004, and soon after became instrumental in the formation of the Pima JTED, often speaking to educators, business and industry leaders, and community groups about the benefits of forming a Joint Technical Education District.
Ms. Prather says that she looks forward to using her experience of working for multiple school districts in the State, working in various businesses, and being a lifelong CTE student, CTE teacher, and CTE Director to help people understand the role all of us have in preparing students for successful careers and lives.
Ms. Prather says, "It's an honor to build upon Pima JTED's successes over the past ten years to provide the best CTE delivery system in the country for the benefit of our students and our economic development."
The Deputy Superintendent serves as second-in-command of the JTED District and acts as the District's leader when the Superintendent is not present in the District. The job duties, among others, include being the point person for the Business and Industry Council, overseeing facilities and maintenance, and coordinating program reviews for all Central and Satellite Campus programs.
