JTED Names Kathy Prather New Deputy Superintendent

kathy prather The Pima JTED Governing Board announced at 1 p.m. today that Kathy Prather will become the District's new Deputy Superintendent on July 1, 2017.

Ms. Prather is currently the Career and Technical Education and JTED Director for the Sunnyside Unified School District, a post she's held since 2012. Prior to joining Sunnyside, she was the CTE Director at Tucson Unified School District. Ms. Prather says, "It's an honor to build upon Pima JTED's successes over the past ten years to provide the best CTE delivery system in the country for the benefit of our students and our economic development."

The Deputy Superintendent serves as second-in-command of the JTED District and acts as the District's leader when the Superintendent is not present in the District. The job duties, among others, include being the point person for the Business and Industry Council, overseeing facilities and maintenance, and coordinating program reviews for all Central and Satellite Campus programs.

Physical Therapy Technician Students Complete Program, Find Jobs Easily

On May 19, our second class of Physical Therapy Technician students celebrated the completion of their program with 619 other Pima JTED Central Campus students at the Tucson Convention Center Arena. Instructor Kimberly McCroy says the majority of her 29 students from this year are already reporting back to her that they've found jobs in the industry. Other students are starting college full time this fall to pursue careers as Physical Therapists or to work in a related field.

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, job growth for Physical Therapy Technicians will be much faster than average. Job openings in Arizona are expected to grow 34 percent between 2014 and 2024, and up to 39 percent nationwide.

Alumni Spotlight: Tessa Miller, Marana H.S. '16
Tessa Miller

Tessa Miller completed four years of our Culinary Arts program at Marana High School in 2016. "My instructor, Mr. King was really good at pushing us to to be our best, and to do whatever we could - he was very encouraging." Tessa's goal is to own her own bakery. The icing on the cake: She's been getting great experience for the past year and half as the baker at Nothing Bundt Cakes at Ina and Oracle Road. She says, "I love it here."

Her boss,  Bruce Stubbs says he's very impressed with the CTE/JTED programs in the Marana Unified School District, and grateful to find hardworking, talented employees like Tessa.
