Raising Godly leaders for a country in need

With more than half of its population under the age of 15 and many diseases cutting lives short, many Ugandan children are being raised by single parents, extended family or even neighbors. Some live on the streets in the cities or struggle to raise themselves in their deceased parents' homes. We are privileged, with the partnership of many generous friends and by the grace of God, to offer practical help and hope for a future through Jesus Christ. Child sponsorship makes it possible for impoverished families in our community to raise their children or those of their family members or friends. For some children who have no one, we take them into our orphanage where me, Mama Phyllis and other committed national workers can meet these practical needs and simply love these vulnerable children.

Many of the children that have grown up in the orphanage are now successfully contributing to and leading their country. We are also very excited to have many of them giving back to the ministry by working for HUM as positions become available. We now have Sarah, who has been working for us as a social worker for several years as well as Bumba working in our sponsorship program and taking on an international position with Orphan's Heart. Henry manages our Kamonkoli Kraft Center and helps coordinate construction and maintenance projects. Violet provides reception, pharmacy and office management at our Holmes Medical Clinic, while Brenda, who just completed a degree in accounting, will be offering support to me in the ministry offices. Katie is in the process of completing her IT degree and is already working in our sponsorship program as well as helping us with our IT needs. Iryn, an orphan herself, who worked as a cook and nanny in the orphanage for many years is now one of our best teachers at our Genesis School while completing her teaching degree with the help of a generous sponsor.

We have several other sponsorship graduates that were not raised in the orphanage working for us as well. We are so proud of them all as we see them allowing God to work in their lives and to use them for His glory.
Norah came to HUM
when she was six years old with her younger  brother, Ssemu, age four.
They had lost their father, who was poisoned.  The extended family became involved at that point as their mother was the main suspect, but it was never proven.  The children were first placed with a Grandfather, who has passed away since, and then with an Uncle who could not care for them.  After working hard through sponsorship for two years to help the extended family care for them,   it seemed they were not in a stable environment or getting the love and care they so much needed.  I took them into my home when approached by their grandmother who was too old to care for them herself. But she cared.  Norah is now 15 and in her 2nd year of high school.  She is a lot of fun and she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior this past January (2017).  She recently asked for a new Bible to read and wanted to be able to take it to school with her. So, I got her a nice one.  She is involved in the Bible study group at school now and enjoys it and loves to sing (has a good voice too).   Thank you to all of you that make it possible for me to be here to love on these children and show them Jesus.   Katherine

Uganda Live!

We know it is not possible for all of you to visit us in Uganda so this year we want to bring Uganda to as many of you as we can. We are planning a Uganda Live event with pictures, hands on displays, activities and Ugandan food. Katherine will be there to share her heart at all of the events and would love to visit with you there.

David, Katherine's first child that she took into her home, will join her at our  September 24th event in Denver to share his stories of growing up with Momma Katherine and how God is working in his life now.

A big THANK YOU to all who gave for our Genesis technology, science supplies and library needs. Much of this will be delivered by our June team.   Watch for pictures soon.   We continue to need funds for Missionary Housing for our 3 young ladies- Melanie, Laura and Elizabeth, Genesis kitchen Equipment and Higher Education funds to help supplement our older kids as educational cost arise and rise.   Please keep these things in mind as you feel led to give additionally to what you already give so faithfully.
