Group Meetings on June 3, 2017

The Dating and Relationship Group:   Finding the Wrong One

Romantic love features a range of dynamics and processes that are unconsciously motivated.  In recent meetings, we have been discussing a main irony of romantic love, i.e., how we seem to search out and find romantic partners who are the most likely candidates for not giving us what we want or need.  While these relationships seem hopeful starting out, gradually and inevitably they devolve -- often ending up being emotionally distressing in ways that reflect prior "bad" relationships. In the aftermath of yet another breakup, a common sentiment is, "I found the wrong one" again.

In the next meeting of the Dating and Relationship Group on Saturday, June 3, 2017 (12:00 to 1:15 PM), we will unpack this curious and painful tendency.  Specifically, I will present the two competing views as to why people seem to find "the wrong one" over and over again. One view is discouraging, the other is hopeful.  When considered together, both unveil a pathway for finding greater fulfillment and satisfaction in romantic love.

The Men's Group:   Mindfulness

Mindfulness has drawn considerate attention in recent years.  However, there are many erroneous assumption about mindfulness. In addition, the foundational principles and goals of mindfulness are often inaccurately presented.   In the next meeting of the Men's Group on Saturday, June 3, 2017 (10:45 AM to 12:00 PM),  I will offer a primer on mindfulness. Exercises will be introduced and discussion will focus on the experience of mindfulness practice and its implications for men and male psychology.
