Jefferson St. Farmers Market News

The farmers market on Jefferson continues to attract big crowds and more new vendors than ever before, enticing people to enjoy the market and downtown longer. The market is on the 200-500 blocks of Jefferson from 5 to 7 PM every Thursday except for June 15, when it will move to the 700-800 blocks for Steamboat Days. A special thanks to Two Rivers Bank & Trust for their support of the market, the volunteers who help with set up and teardown, and to market manager Jerry Johnson.

Downtown Coffee & Conversation

All downtown property and business owners, employees, and residents are invited to Downtown Partners' next Coffee and Conversation on Wednesday, June 28 at 8 AM. This casual get together, organized by the Business Development Committee, lasts about an hour and is meant to engage our stakeholders, foster communication, and strengthen the downtown community. We'll be meeting this month at The Uptown Ivy, 514 Jefferson. Hope to see you there!

Outdoor Movies Return to Downtown

Grab a lawn chair and head down to the 5 & V - downtown Burlington's outdoor theater! Four great movies will be shown on the side of Drake Hardware and Software at Fifth and Valley Streets this summer. There's no admission for the events, though donations are accepted. The movies will start at dusk, but be sure to come down early for games and activities - and to pick out a choice spot.  There will be snack and drink vendors on hand, too.

The Latest News...

  • Thanks to Zaiser's Florist & Greenhouse, the Master Gardeners, and all the volunteers who turned out to plant the downtown flowers. They really accent the beauty of our already beautiful downtown. The downtown flowers and maintenance are funded by a grant from the John H. Witte, Jr. Foundation.
  • Myers Construction continues roof truss repairs at 300 Washington, a project supported in part by the State Historical Society of Iowa, Historic Resource Development Program. Brockway Mechanical and Roofing will be installing a new roof on the building this month.
  • We LOVE to see the sidewalk seating and dining areas popping up downtown! They truly add to the vibrancy of  our district. Thanks also to the business owners who are planting and maintaining their own flower pots; they say "Welcome!" to customers and show that people care.
