Grace and Peace!

Two of my favorite things that we do together as a church here at Crossgates UMC are the Summer kickoff and the Back to School meal and packing. I always look forward to and enjoy these events because they draw us together as a church family and they are just fun! What a blessing it is to see so many people of different ages coming together around kickball and packing for Stop Hunger Now.

In the busyness of doing church, we sometimes miss out on the important aspect of simply being together and building relationships. Connections are important! The way that we truly grow together as a church and as people trying to live into and live out God's kingdom work requires us to know each other and to be intentional in our relationships. I love to watch the interaction as youth, adults, children and older adults come together at these events. What an incredible story and life we share together.

The Bible is full of stories of relationships and interactions between people who have lived out God's kingdom work. As we journey through the summer, we will share in their stories as we revisit the Old Testament book of Genesis. It's always fun to hear anew the stories of those God has chosen to carry on His kingdom's work here and to be reminded of just how much like us these people really are. Please plan to join me as we journey from Abraham to Moses and their crazy relatives in between.

Summer is here and activity abounds!! Please pray for June & July's events: Wild Game Dinner, VBS, MS Annual Conference, Costa Rica Mission Trip, Beach Camp for Youth, M28 Camp for Youth, The Heritage Tour, Kids to Camp Wesley Pines and anything else we may squeeze into the schedule!!

Blessings for a restful & renewing summer!

Your servant in Christ,
Chris

TRUSTEE ACTION

The Trustee committee met on April 3, 2017 and approved the following items that would be taken to the Finance Committee and the Church Council:

Sanctuary heating and cooling systems replacement:  This complete overhaul will be financed by funds that are presently on hand in our "church building fund" line item. The cost of this project will be approximately $54,000.00 plus tax and will begin by the end of June.

Sanctuary and Activity Center lighting upgrades and retrofitting to LED specifications:  This process will include a new dimming panel for the sanctuary. Pricing for this work is currently being locked in and will be financed with an extension of our present note at the Bank of Yazoo. The approximate cost will be $150,000.00 plus tax. If our plans for scheduling are put into action, this should begin by the end of June 2017.

Sanctuary sound system upgrades:  This project will include additions to the present system that will enhance and allow added controls and improve sound. The work is now being done and more information will be forthcoming. A private donation has been made to finance this project.

Activity Center chairs:  We currently have pricing for the replacement of the old chairs. The approximate cost of this item is $13,000.00. We have some significant donations for this project and will welcome donations that will allow the chair purchase to take place.

Church reroof:  This project has been discussed for the last 7 years and is finally becoming a reality. The church - sanctuary, office area, and the Activity Center - is in need of a new roof. This project will be a very sizable expense and is being priced. There will be more forthcoming concerning this project in the near future.

The Finance Committee and the Church Council have acted on these items and will push forward with the scheduling and financing. We will keep you posted.
