Cub Scout Saves Mom's Life

A local eight-year-old Cub Scout kept his cool and applied his Scout training when he saved his choking mother's life only weeks after his father had passed away in a car accident. Michael O'Brien called 911 and gave the operator updates until help arrived. His mom credits the Cub Scouts with preparing him for serious situations like this.
 
Mike's story received coverage overnight as far away as New Zealand, and he said he is thrilled to be a "celebrity".

First-time home buyers will get some relief from soaring home prices through a new down payment assistance program called "First Down" recently announced by R.I. Housing. The program offers a $7,500 grant for Rhode Islanders purchasing their first home in Providence, Pawtucket, Woonsocket, Warwick, Cranston and East Providence.
 
R.I. Housing Executive Director Barbara Fields discussed the details of the program and explained who is eligible recently on WPRI Channel 12's "Rhode Show".

Brother & Sister Begin Cross Country Bike Trip
Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island
 
Hope Hospice has had an impact on many fam ilies in the  region. Jon and Ann Wish were so inspired by the care their mother received that they decided to cycle cross country in an effort to raise money for HopeHealth and raise awareness of hospice care. They depart June 3 and are looking forward to the adventure of a lifetime as a tribute to their mom's life.

Walt Buteau of Channel 12 recently met with the siblings to discuss the upcoming ride, their mom's legacy, and their family's experience at Hope Hospice RI.
