Grant Recipients
Region 2 Arts Council
We are pleased to announce the recipients of our Young Artist Grants:
- Josibeth Aguilera was awarded $600 to study painting silks with Mary Therese in Bemidji.
- Sierra Charwood received $474 to attend Fiddle Camp in Bemidji.
- Quinn Knott was awarded $600 to study woodcarving with Les Sanders in Bemidji.
- Allison Koos, of Bemidji, received $600 to study drawing with Anne Washburn.
- Joshua Schueller, of Laporte, was awarded $600 to study advanced violin with Dr. Dina Neglia-Khachatryan.
- Zachary Schueller, of Laporte, received $600 to study advanced trumpet with Paul Loxtercamp.
- Korben Ward, of Bemidji, was awarded $595 to study guitar with Lou Samsa.
We are also pleased to announce the recipients of our Arts Project Grants:
- Bemidji Symphony Orchestra was awarded $2,500 to host guest trumpet artist Mark Nelson for a concert called, "Trading Places," in Beltrami County.
- Bemidji Woodcarvers Club, of Beltrami County, received $1,950 to host a Woodcarving Workshop with artist Marty Dophens.
- Headwaters School of Music & the Arts (Beltrami County) was awarded $2,500 to have a Songwriters cultural exchange, showcase, and workshop with artists Berit Dybing, Erdwin Kløvning, Corey Medina & Caige Jambor.
- Nemeth Art Center, of Hubbard County, was awarded $2,500 to produce an exhibition with Minneapolis-based artist Christopher E. Harrison entitled, "MonsterLands."
- Northern Light Opera Company, of Hubbard County, received $2,500 to produce the NLOKids Summer Theater Camp in Ponemah.
- Park Rapids Schools was awarded $2,500 to produce a Bi-Okoto Drum and Dance Theatre workshop for students, as well as a public program, in Hubbard County.
- Watermark Art Center of Bemidji received $2,380 to produce The Exquisite iPhone Landscape Workshop. (Beltrami County)

Currently we need one resident from each of these counties to become a member of our Board: Clearwater, Beltrami, Mahnomen, and Lake of the Woods. This is a great opportunity to understand the workings of the granting process, to be more involved with the arts and artists of your county, and to enjoy camaraderie with others that appreciate the arts. Please contact the Region 2 office for more information or to request an application.
Interviews for board members have just begun and will continue into June, or until positions are filled,
for each two-year term.

Free Acting and Music Workshops in Bemidji
Sod House Theater
Sod House Theater of Minneapolis will offer a series of free music and acting workshops led by professional theater artists Luverne Seifert & Darcey Engen, and professional musicians Brian Laidlaw & Ashley Hanson, in Bemidji. No experience necessary! We provide a playful and safe environment to learn skills for performance. All workshops are at Rail River Folk School.

The Power of Your Voice: Developing Your Voice for the Stage
This workshop will introduce and encourage performers to develop the components of vocal production such as projection, dynamics, pitch, rate, resonance, variety, articulation as well as relaxation and breathing. This workshop will help the performer increase vocal energy, strength, range, flexibility, and clarity and apply it directly into their performance. No preparation is necessary. Dress to move comfortably. Best for participants 15 years and older.

Kick in the Pants: Physical Comedy Routines
This workshop will introduce stage techniques of physical comedy; slaps, kicks, trips, falls, fixed points and awkward timing decisions. Participants will develop and perform a 1-2 minute comedy routine. No preparation necessary. Dress to move comfortably. Any age welcome.

Hometown Ballad Songwriting Workshop
In this workshop, you will share stories about your community, discuss the craft of songwriting, and start to turn stories shared into original songs. Open to all ages and levels of experience; singers, musicians, and writers encouraged to attend; instruments are invited, but not required.

Join the directors of Sod House Theater and Region 2 Arts Council to learn more about the opportunity to be involved in a professional site-specific, musical theater adaptation of Ibsen's Enemy of the People that will be performed in Bemidji this August. Open to all ages, abilities, and levels of experience.

This playful workshop will incorporate elements of movement and improvisation mixed with live and pre-recorded music. The Minnesota State Arts Board is excited to announce a new public art project at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis. They're looking for artists or artist-led teams to create permanent, site-specific artwork for a new addition.
Working, professional artists residing in the United States are eligible to apply. Artists must be at least 18 years of age to apply.

Call for Indigenous Artists
Miikanan Gallery
Miikanan Gallery is seeking Indigenous artists to submit work to be considered for exhibition at their grand opening event in the Watermark Art Center. All forms of art will be considered. The exhibit is tentatively scheduled to open November 2017.
They are seeking broad interpretations of the following concept:
Aazhoomon - Convergence
Converge: Come from different directions and meet.
Convergence: The point of converging; a meeting place. A crossroads.
