Oklahoma City Hosts Earthquake Managers
Induced seismicity and the increase in earthquakes in Oklahoma were front and center on the agenda when state, territorial, and FEMA Regional Earthquake Program managers, other FEMA representatives, and partners met to share best practices and programs, receive training, and develop new relationships that will lead to further earthquake resiliency.

FLASH Hosts Southern California QuakeSmart Workshops
The business, nonprofit, and emergency communities came together when FLASH and its partners hosted a series of workshops in Southern California to hear expert presenters with vested interests in public safety share how following the
QuakeSmart protocols can reduce damage costs, save lives, and help communities recover quicker after disasters. More than 325 participants attended the workshops held in Rancho Mirage, Long Beach, and Los Angeles.

California Earthquake Authority South Napa Home Impact Study
This report summarizes findings of an in-depth California Earthquake Authority (CEA) research project to survey and analyze what happened to single-family dwellings and homeowners affected by the August 24, 2014 South Napa M6.0 earthquake. Through an online survey, interviews, and home inspections, a large amount of new data were collected about the characteristics of Napa area houses and the effects of the quake. In addition, a new approach to home earthquake vulnerability assessment was piloted. The results show a population widely impacted by a moderate event, and individuals who are resourceful and resilient but faced with many challenges in how to handle earthquake vulnerabilities. Insights gained about the beliefs and experiences of Napa homeowners can help CEA further improve its insurance offerings and mitigation programs, as well as advancing the state-of-the-art in earthquake retrofit performance research.

California Earthquake Clearinghouse Participation in Vigilant Guard-17
During an emergency, the California Geological Survey (CGS) operates according to the State Emergency Plan of 2009. Agency-specific functions are further defined in an Administrative Order developed by the Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) established under the authority of Executive Order No. W-9-91. The order states CGS will provide geotechnical data and advice regarding natural hazards to support emergency planning and information support as required during State disaster response operations. CGS coordinates its emergency response with federal, state, local, and other agencies and organizations.

FLASH: What is the background and history of the Cascadia Region Earthquake Workgroup (CREW)?
Pascal: CREW was formed in the late 1990s to help bring together public, private, academic, and nonprofit organizations to address the regional nature of earthquakes and related hazards in the Pacific Northwest. Many agencies and organizations identify, study, monitor, and predict earthquakes and related hazards. CREW strives to bring together researchers, practitioners, and community members as part of the coalition. It works across city, state, federal, and international boundaries to help the entire Cascadia Region plan and become more resilient from earthquakes and related hazards. CREW continues to strengthen the Pacific Northwest by offering workshops and business round-tables, planning guides, public education, and innovative new methods and tools to support the importance of building resiliency.

Heidi: The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), established in 1948, is a nonprofit, multi-disciplinary technical society of experts dedicated to reducing earthquake risk. EERI members include engineers, geoscientists, architects, planners, public officials, and social scientists. Members are researchers, practicing professionals, educators, government officials, and building code regulators. Volunteer members are organized into chapters, committees, and projects that conduct activities to achieve the EERI mission.

Eleventh U.S. National Conference on Earthquake Engineering Call Extended to June 25th
The Eleventh U.S. National Conference on Earthquake Engineering, on the 70th Anniversary of the forming of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, will provide an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to share the latest knowledge and techniques to better understand and mitigate the damaging effects of earthquakes and tsunamis. With the theme "Integrating Science, Engineering, and Policy," the conference will bring together professionals from the full spectrum of the earthquake community to discuss and debate a multitude of issues related to seismic hazard, risk, mitigation and public policy.
