Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 US Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Republican Party Meeting

The Alleghany County Republican Party will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the VFW Post No. 7034 in Sparta at 6 pm.The guest speaker will be Kenneth Vaught, the Veterans Service Officer. Also, a  fundraiser that includes homemade "cake & pie" auction and
 non-food items.

Alleghany County Rescue Squad: Chicken & Pork BBQ

Alleghany County Rescue Squad is having a chicken and pork BBQ on  Saturday, June 3 . BBQ will be ready at 9 AM at the Rescue Squad Building on Trojan Ave . We will also offer free " Hands Only CPR " classes starting at 9 AM
All proceeds will go to support the Alleghany County Non-profit Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Tour de Mountains cycling adventure will take place Saturday, June 10 in Sparta, NC. The cycle will include spectacular views and challenging climbs! You can choose your distance of 20, 35, 62, or 100 miles.

"100 Mile" Challenge Hike

Need to add a few miles to your log?  Join a State Ranger at the visitor center off of highway 221 in the New River State Park for a 2.4 mile hike on Saturday, June 10th at 10 AM. We will enjoy the beautiful weather and talked about what nature is up to during this season.  It is recommended to wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle.

Wildflower Hike: New River State Park

Join a ranger for a 1 mile hike along the New River and in search of June wildflowers, ferns, and trees on Saturday, June 10th at 2 PM.
Wear good walking shoes and bring a bottle of
water. Feel free to bring your camera as well, to capture the beauty, and leave it for others to
enjoy.



Farm to Table Dinner


Mark your calendars for the Farm to Table dinner that will be held on June 10, 2017 at 6:00 PM. Tickets are $35 a person or $65 for two, $250 for eight. Tickets are available for purchase at the Chamber of  Commerce. 
The dinner will be held at the
Farmers Market Pavilion at Crouse Park. 

VFW Post 7034 Chicken for Sale

Whole and half chicken for sale starting June 10th by 8:30 AM or when the chicken is cooked. These are sold out by mid-morning. $9 whole, $5 half.

Ride for Readers

Motorcycle/auto ride fundraiser for the Alleghany County Library, beginning at Freeborne's 14300 Hwy 18, Laurel Springs. Kickstands up at 10 AM. $25 per person includes cookout, live music, 50/50 drawing, worst and best hand and door prizes.
