TAG to feature shows by Rothkopf and by all members in June
Frederick, Md.

Mark Rothkopf will have a solo exhibition at TAG/The Artists Gallery in June.  His new series of photographs is titled "" Glimpses of Nirvana."

Rothkopf  grew up in the  Catskill Mountains of New York where he developed a love for art at a young age.  "I painted and drew and loved studying masterpieces of painting," he says, "but I changed directions during a workshop where I met some of the greatest photographers and saw their amazing work.  I fell in love with everything about photography, and I feel the same way almost forty years later."
"Glimpses of Nirvana" is about Rothkopf's lifetime love affair with the pursuit of special images.
"I`ve searched the earth from my doorstep to places as remote as Iceland," he says.  "I truly enjoy those photographs that come to me easily and have an immediate  beauty. However I often find greater beauty in the far less obvious.  That often involves exploring things I fear- shadowy areas that are less inviting-  but more often have a richer and more meaningful result."
Included in "Glimpses" are images that he describes as "having grown very slowly on me- and hopefully they will on the viewer as well."  This interaction between the seer and the seen will, he hopes, lead viewers to an idyllic place or state which some describe as nirvana.
In addition to this solo exhibitions, TAG will have a new show of work by all members of the gallery with a theme of "SunSational."  Both shows run from June 2 through 25. with a reception from 5 to 9pm during First Saturday on June 3.
TAG, at 216 North Market Street, Frederick, is open Friday and Saturday from noon to 9pm and on Sunday from noon to 5pm, or by appointment.  Learn more at

Maybe his superhero sidekick Robin (Michael Cera) and loyal butler Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) can show him a thing or two.

Mason-Dixon Barbershop Chorus
at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts
Sunday, July 16, 2017/2:30 p.m.
Kaylor Atrium

Barbershop Harmony is a unique art form, with its roots from back during the turn of the century America. The barbershop style of harmony uses close 4 - part acapella referring to no musical accompaniment. Old songs with smooth melodies and natural harmony were written in the heyday of Tin Pan Alley from 1890 to 1920 which were best suited for the barbershop harmony style.
These songs were about the simple pleasures and emotions of life that an average singer could easily sing. Beginning in the small town barbershops, local country stores and churches throughout America, it was not long before the male quartet became a standard act in Vaudeville shows and other musical entertainments. Recordings of popular quartets in the early decades of the 20th century formed the heart of barbershop music as we know it today, a style that still delights the performer as well as the listener.
The Mason Dixon Barbershop Chorus is one of over 800 chapters comprised of over 35,000 singers worldwide. Living in communities in the surrounding areas such Hagerstown and even some from over the Mason-Dixon Line in Pennsylvania (hence the name), our chorus members come from many different occupations. Some members might be new, while others having been a part of the tradition of singing barbershop for over 60 years or more. Throughout the year the chorus performs at a variety of venues such as nursing homes, hospitals, civic events including the singing "The National Anthem" at the Hagerstown Suns game as well as for private audiences. Some of the songs we sing are familiar classics like "My Wild Irish Rose", "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "Shenandoah".
