A Celebration of Filene's Historical Block: Millennium Partners Rededicates
Trinity Church Tablet
May 23rd marked a truly historic commemoration for Downtown Crossing, as Millennium Partners, city officials, and various dignitaries gathered on the Summer Street Plaza to rededicate a bronze tablet marking the original location of Boston's Trinity Church.
Assembled in front of the legendary Burnham Building (former Filene's), which Millennium Partners restored from 2013-2015, the audience heard speeches from
Boston City Councilor Bill Linehan (above)
,
Millennium Partners' Raffi Berberian,
Kathleen MacNeil (below) and
Anthony Pangaro, as well as
David H. Burnham
(descendant of architect Daniel Burnham), and
Rev. Dr. William Rich
, Vicar of Trinity Church.
This location marks where the first and second Trinity Churches stood in Boston. The original church was rebuilt and the second church was destroyed by the Greater Boston Fire of 2012, then rebuilt and relocated from Downtown Crossing to its present home in Copley Square.
The Downtown Boston BID congratulates Millennium Partners, the City of Boston, the Burnham family, the Trinity Church congregation, and everyone else involved in bringing the majestic Burnham Building back and its innumerable historic features back to life!

Woodhouse was a Tuskogee Airman, which were the first African-American pilots battling Nazi Germany and Japan during World War II. About 14 Massachusetts residents were pilots in the unit, which became known as the Red Tails for the color painted on their aircraft.
