We also received a Platinum Membership Award from the Washington State PTA for increasing our membership more than 20%. We hope you'll all continue to support the PTSA by joining again next year.

LW yearbook program wins excellence award

Congratulations to the 2017 LWHS yearbook staff  led by editors Emree Burkhalter, Ashley Kipp, Kelly Lam and Rachel Schauer, for being awarded the   Josten's  National Yearbook Program of Excellence. This distinction goes to the top 6% of programs in the nation, based on  coverage, project management, and sales.  The team has one of the highest rates of coverage for a school of this size in the nation with 95% of the student body in the book at least three times.

"People outside the yearbook world may never know, or fully appreciate, just how much organization and teamwork it takes to produce our 344-page, $53,698 project. I am grateful to my staff for their selflessness and commitment to honoring the individuals who make up our community. I am especially proud of our editors for leading by example and making this year such a fun adventure," said Dawn Wyatt, yearbook advisor.

We love to spoil LW staff

With the help of many parents and Leadership students, we spoiled our LW staff during Staff Appreciation Week! Students wrote thank you notes to staff members and hundreds of these notes were placed into staff mailboxes. Staff ate well during the week, too. Thank you to the many folks who donated food, money and time to make it a special week for them.

College Application Workshop series seeks volunteers

PTSA's College Application Workshop provides our seniors with college application essay and personal statement support. We also answer questions about the college process and steer students in the right direction for any additional support they may need. Volunteers are needed for the 2017-18 school year as we continue this successful program. Workshops meet Thursdays (during ROO period) at 9:31 am and Wednesdays after school at 12:40 pm. We ask for a once-a-week commitment from September through January. PTSA provides training. View more details or contact Judy Shedd to volunteer.

Kang Crier is wrapping up soon
Unsubscribing after the last issue
There will be one last issue of the Kang Crier on June 14. If you no longer wish to receive the Kang Crier, you must unsubscribe yourself. We don't automatically delete any emails from our database, even for senior parents. (The "Unsubscribe" link is in the footer of every issue.)

Privacy issues & the Kang Crier
Each fall in the First Day packet, parents and guardians receive a form from the district called "Directory Withhold Form - SS100." This form has check boxes labelled "Withhold [your child's name or image] From Public Release" and "Withhold [your child's name or image] From District Use." If you check those boxes, your child will not be listed in the Kang Crier, nor will any photos including their image be published. This includes any awards your student receives. If your child is in a group photo, they will be deleted from that photo. The Kang Crier newsletter primarily goes out to LWHS families, but any member of the public can go to our LWHS PTSA website and sign up to receive it; we also archive our newsletter on the PTSA website, which is accessible to the public.

Look for your first Kang Crier of the 2017-2018 school year in late August!

The pre-arranged absence forms can be found on the LWHS website or in the Attendance Office.

Senior final transcript request
At the senior class meeting on Monday, May 22, all seniors were given a "Final Transcript Request" form. Regardless of where the student is headed after graduation, each senior must notify us of his/her plans. Even if students are unclear regarding their fall commitment, they should have a final transcript sent to their home address. Even though we collected these forms during the meeting, please check with your senior to make sure that this form has been submitted to the Counseling Center.  Final transcripts will be mailed to colleges or where requested by July 1.

Girls slowpitch softball coming to LW
LW is adding girls slowpitch softball this fall after interest surveys indicated that students desired this sport. Now that we are adding it, we need to know who those interested girls are so we can make plans for fielding our team. Please stop by the athletic office and give your name. Slowpitch softball is open to all girls.

Community, LW Clubs & Activities
Pantry Packs' new alliance
The Pantry Packs program supplies weekend food packs to students that might not otherwise eat when federal school meal programs are unavailable. It currently serves nearly 750 students at 43 LWSD schools, including LWHS students. Previously a grassroots effort and then part of Hopelink, Pantry Packs will transition to the Lake Washington Schools Foundation as of July 1, 2017. It is a natural fit since both organizations exist to help students in the Lake Washington School District. Schools receiving Pantry Packs will see no changes in operations; students identified as food-insecure by school personnel will continue to receive packs each Friday during the school year. The program welcomes school and club food drives next school year to support students. For more information, visit www.lwsf.org/pantrypacks or email pantrypacks@lwsf.org.
