MAY 2017
We sometimes feel we are messed up and God is mad at us.  The following story illustrates God's opinion of us.

A speaker held up a $20 bill and announced, "Who would like this $20 bill?"  Hands popped up all over the room.  Next, he wadded up the bill for everyone to see, "Who still wants it?"  Hands came up again.  Then he asked, "What if I do this?"  He dropped the money on the floor, ground it into the dirt with his shoe and crumpled it up even more.  "Now, who still wants this $20?"  Still hands went into the air to claim the money.

"You have learned a valuable lesson today.  No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value.  It is still worth $20.  Sometimes in life, we get dropped, crumpled, kicked into the dirt by the choices we make and the circumstances that come our way.  We feel worthless."  The speaker made his point:  no matter what has happened or will happen, we will never lose our value in God's eyes. We are still priceless in His eyes.

Blessings to all,
Pastor Jim Hardwick

"Flowering The Easter Cross"

"Oh, that we might know the LORD!  Let us press on to know him.  He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring."  Hosea 6:3 (NLT)

Wow, April was an amazing month!  God responded to our worship in so many wonderful ways. . . .  Easter Sunday was one of those times.  We filled the sanctuary with butterflies, which are symbols of resurrection.  After this past year, where we've experienced such great loss together, they are a declaration of hope and eternal life.  The Flowering of the Easter Cross was a moving experience.  The memory of little children, being lifted up by their parents to place their flowers, is one that I will always cherish.  Our Easter choir did such a great job too!  So many of you participated in the Passover Seder supper which made it an especially meaningful time of remembrance leading up to our celebration of the Resurrection.  I want to thank each and every person who helped with the Seder preparations and all other aspects of our worship during this past month.  I also want to thank Gary Beaver for agreeing to take over Communion preparations beginning in May.  As we move into the month of May, I know many of you will be busier than usual with graduation, Mother's Day and Memorial Day gatherings and celebrations. But let's keep pressing on together to know the Lord and enjoy His presence as we worship together.

Youth and Young Adults (ages 12-18)

With warm weather and fun rainy days rolling in, the youth group has been pitching ideas for outreach events and parties to get the attention of the Middle and High School students in the area.  We have been learning about taking life by the horns, not letting the world or the devil lead us astray, but taking each day for the Lord.  We have been planning times to get together and practice sharing our faith and other times for fellowship.  Hillsboro's youth group is a close family.  We are looking forward to inviting new people, growing in the Lord, and seeking to bring the Kingdom.  We meet Sunday nights from 5 to 7 pm.  Supper and games preced Bible study and worship. Middle School and High School ages are welcome!
