Resort Update

As Assistant Manager, I am extremely proud of the improvements that have been made at the resort. All departments work tirelessly to make sure the resort is looking at it's best for our Members and Guests. The staff at Mariner Shores are very committed to their jobs and it shows in the resort.

We have a new Mariner Shores Resort flag – which is put up daily with the Australia flag.

The gardens on the highway side of the resort have had new sleepers put along borders, a couple of loads of new soil and plants.

New box-quilt bed covers have been made for the single beds and we have put valances on bases of beds. We are donating all old single bed covers to homeless shelters.

Installation of safety bollards around the Laundry entrance in lower basement carpark has now been finished. The line markings in carpark has been refreshed.

In an effort to keep our car park in lower basement tidy, the maintenance team have built an  enclosure to house broken whitegoods, unslightly items and the trailer before we can get to the rubbish tip.

Look forward to seeing you at our beautiful resort.

Assistant Manager

MANAGER'S UPDATE

Here we are, already at the end of Autumn, and what wonderful weather we have been enjoying, with warm, clear days, and nights just cool enough for a coat or a jacket.

Members have been commenting on just how great the resort is looking, and I have to say that our wonderful team have been doing a fantastic job keeping everything looking so good.

You will see below that the Board met on site recently, and it was a great opportunity for them to see all the little (and not so little) improvements that have been made around the resort, to make your stay more enjoyable.

I have also added an update below about the bathroom refurbishment project which is underway.

On a personal note, I am again this year participating in the annual St Vincent de Paul CEO Sleepout, which aims to raise funds to assist with their work for the homeless. The statistics are quite sobering, with over 105,000 Australians homeless every night, with more than 34,000 of them being children. The sleepout this year will take place on the night of Thursday 22 June.

So, I am respectfully asking if any members are in a position to assist with a donation, no matter how small, to go to  https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/ceos/qld-ceos/tony-houlahan/ and follow the prompts to the donations link. Every little bit will assist in alleviating the difficult circumstances of those homeless Australians assisted by St Vincent de Paul. I thank you in advance for any assistance that you may be able to provide.

Wish me well for a cool night out under the stars!

Until I welcome you back to this wonderful resort,

Tony Houlahan
Resort Manager
  BATHROOM REFURBISHMENT
I am delighted with the progress of the bathroom refurbishment of Units 16 and 17 (pictures below), and expect the renovations to be complete on time on Friday 2 June. The Board will be inspecting the completed bathrooms that day.
The next two rooms, Units 5 and 6, are scheduled to be commenced on Friday 23 June, and should be completed within three weeks.
There are another 11 units scheduled for completion within 2017, and we will continue to report the progress here in the newsletter.

CHAIRMAN'S LETTER
Hello members, and welcome to this, my first Chairman’s letter.

For members who may be unacquainted with me, I have been a proud owner for 18 years and been on the board for the past 3 ½ years.

Last year after the AGM the board convened with the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Secretary standing down from their positions putting all positons up for nominations. This is usual practice following the AGM. Tom Coulstock and I received 3 votes each for the Chairman’s position with Tom eventually being re-elected as the Chairman. As the votes were close, Tom elected to step down from the Chairmen’s position after 6 months allowing myself to step up for the last 6 months of the year which I have taken up as of the 13th May.

I am delighted to accept the appointment, and look forward to representing the Club.

In other matters, the board came together for our quarterly meeting over the weekend of 12-13 May where the budget for the financial year of 2017/18 was discussed. During this meeting the owner’s levies was discussed and a proposal of a 4% increase was supported by the majority of the board.

Levies for the 2017/18 financial year will be as follows
1 Bedroom Levy – $779.64     (2017: $749.65)       (2016: $720.82)
2 Bedroom Levy – $915.42     (2017: $880.22)       (2016: $846.36)
3 Bedroom Levy – $1,054.80  (2017: $1,014.24)    (2016: $975.23)

The total value of Levies invoiced would be $2,764,589 with a transfer to the Refurbishment Fund of $344,208, allowing an extra 12 bathroom refurbishments for 2017/18 bringing the total of 33 bathrooms refurbished by the end of June 2018.

The 4% increase in next year’s levies will provide an extra $106,330 in revenue to Mariner Shores. Although there have been some reductions in expenses in some areas there has also been increases in areas where the Board has no control, these being Council rates, Land taxes, Electricity, Wages and Repairs and Maintenance. Unfortunately for Mariner Shores to operate and provide the wonderful holiday experience the board recognised the importance of this decision to approve the increase in levies.

The Bathroom renovations are moving forward with 2 more units to be completed on the 2nd June. It’s the board’s intension to inspect these units and determine if the workmanship is satisfactory to the needs of Mariner Shores to enable us to move forward.
