CHEA 2017 Summer Workshop
Perspectives on Accreditation

Capital Hilton Hotel
1001 16th Street NW
Washington, DC
June 26 (evening reception) - June 27, 2017

Sessions at the Summer Workshop will address:

  • Accreditation and the U.S. Congress
What issues are of greatest importance to leaders in Congress when it comes to accreditation? Are we likely to see any movement on these issues, including a reauthorization of the Higher Education Act?

  • Accreditation and the Administration
What steps have been taken by the Administration to address accreditation and how are these actions affecting institutions and programs?

  • Regulatory Relief for Accreditation: What Do We Want and What Do We Need?
“Regulatory relief” has become a major topic of consideration as discussion of accreditation moves forward. What type of relief would accreditors, institutions and programs like to see? What type of relief is realistic?

  • The New Administration and Congress: A Political Perspective
What observations can we make about the current Administration and Congress after the first six months of their work? What are the implications for higher education and accreditation?

  • CHEA 20th Year Op-Ed Series: A Panel Discussion Among Authors on the Future of Accreditation
CHEA has developed an Op-Ed Series as part of acknowledging the 20th year of CHEA’s operation. The focus of the Series is the future of accreditation. What do some of the Op-Ed authors have to say about accreditation and the future?

  • Accreditation Reform: Ideas and Perspectives
A number of ideas for reform of accreditation have been generated and shared, whether from Congress, think tanks or policy leaders. What are these ideas and are any of them likely to take hold in accreditation?
