The NFF released the newest video in its "I'm A Football Mom" series, featuring Venita Parker, the mother of former Penn State offensive guard and 2013 NFF William V. Campbell Trophy recipient John Urschel. Click here to watch the video.
The Venita Parker interview captures her perspective on how she addressed the safety concerns of having her son play football and the importance of football in turning her son into a well-rounded individual. Urschel is currently pursuing his PhD in mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology while playing in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens. Parker said the key in addressing her concerns centered on becoming knowledgeable and ensuring that her son's coaches put his safety first. |

NFF Board Member, 2013 NFF Leadership Hall of Fame inductee and Dallas Cowboys owner, president and general manager Jerry Jones
was named
the recipient of the SportsBusiness Journal/Daily Lifetime Achievement Award for 2017. He will be honored May 24 at the Sports Business Awards in New York City.
NFF Board Member and Apple CEO Tim Cook was named the fourth most influential person in tech right now by Time.
NFF Board Member and former Notre Dame football player Rod West has been promoted to group president, utility operations at Entergy Corporation.
The Indianapolis Colts announced that a statue of 2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee Peyton Manning (Tennessee) will be unveiled Oct. 7 outside of Lucas Oil Stadium. The following day, Manning's No. 18 jersey will be officially retired, and he will be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor during halftime of the Colts' Week 5 game against the San Francisco 49ers.
2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee Kirk Gibson (Michigan State) will be the keynote speaker at a free community event May 23 at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids, Mich. He will discuss his battle with Parkinson's disease.
College Football Hall of Fame coach Terry Donahue (UCLA) will serve as one of the head coaches for the 2018 Polynesian Bowl, a high school all-star football game that features players of Polynesian heritage and other ancestries. The game will take place Jan. 20, 2018, at Aloha Stadium on O`ahu, Hawai`i. Former UCLA and NFL head coach Dick Vermeil will serve as the other head coach.
Josh Cody, a College Football Hall of Fame player from Vanderbilt, will be posthumously inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame the weekend of Sept. 23 for his time as Clemson's head football and basketball coach. Former Tigers defensive back Tye Hill will also be inducted.
College Football Hall of Famer and 1973 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Dave Casper (Notre Dame) will serve as Honorary Chairman for the Global Youth Ambassadors Bowl in the Mexico City suburb of Toluca this November.
2009 Campbell Trophy winner Tim Tebow (Florida) signed a multiyear extension with ESPN to remain as a college football analyst on SEC Network's traveling pregame show SEC Nation.
2007 NFF John L. Toner Award recipient and Florida athletics director emeritus, Jeremy Foley, will serve as a professor of practice in sport leadership beginning in fall 2017.

NFF Valley of the Sun (Ariz.) Chapter
will host a "Changing of the Guard" event May 17 at Valle Luna in Chandler, Ariz. Arizona State
Senior Associate Athletics Director of Football Operations Tim Cassidy will be the guest speaker and new chapter president Adam Turner will be introduced.
The NFF Doc Boisoneau/Northern Connecticut Chapter will hold its scholar-athlete luncheon May 21 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, Conn.
The NFF Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter will hold its 42nd annual scholar-athlete Banquet May 21 at the Boston-Newton Marriott. The chapter will honor 33 scholar-athletes.
The NFF Philadelphia Chapter scholar-athlete banquet will take place May 24 in the Connelly Center at Villanova University. It will be the last banquet for Andy Talley as the chapter's president after he recently retired as Villanova's head coach.
The NFF State of Maine Chapter will hold its 30th annual scholar-athlete banquet May 24 on the campus of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. U.S. Navy Captain Brent Blackmer will receive the chapter's Distinguished American Award. The chapter will honor 20 scholar-athletes with each receiving a $500 grant from the Coach Mac-Huard Fund.
The NFF Sunflower (Kan.) Chapter will host its scholar-athlete banquet May 24 at Kansas State's Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium. Kansas State Associate Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator Sean Snyder will be the guest speaker.
