SPOTLIGHT

"We're ALL in." says the Zatlin family - one of the first and most vocal supporters of the new GVCO Center. The new Center "screams community... [we] see grandparents watching their grandkids play, the inclusion of all," and the potential for amazing growth. GVCO is a place "beyond the school that is so unique," and Dennis and Linda Zatlin see the new center as an integral part of Great Valley's future.

The Zatlins, who own and run Allied Resources Staffing Solutions in Exton, moved to Malvern in 2007. The couple and their two boys - Garrett and Brett, sixth and second graders at the time - didn't know anyone in Great Valley. Even their neighborhood was empty; most of the houses hadn't been built yet. But they had heard good things about the district, so decided to leave Exton and come east.

What they found here, and what has kept them here, is the Great Valley community. For the Zatlins, it began with GVCO. In the fall of 2007, their sixth grader Garrett was making the tough transition both to middle school and a new district, and decided to play basketball at GVBL. It was a serendipitous choice. Within months, Garrett had a strong and great group of friends, and Dennis and Linda began to meet the GVBL parents with whom they are still close today. The Zatlins credit GVCO and its amazingly warm and caring families with making Great Valley their permanent home - and one that Garrett plans to return to after college.

You can't miss the excitement and enthusiasm on Dennis' face when he talk about GVCO and GVBL. "It's all about the community... GVCO's volunteers give so much time and they are what makes it work." He is 100% behind GVCO's mission, as is Linda. The refreshingly "competitive, but not cutthroat" environment that they found in 2007 exists today in all GVCO's programs - as Dennis observed:  "every program is successful and growing and that says something about GVCO and its volunteers."

So thank you, Dennis and Linda... You truly understand and support GVCO's mission. You see how GVCO has pulled our community closer together and given us a space and a place for our kids to play and grow. And you understand how important the new Center is to creating a space for all of us, for generations to come.Your continued support is an inspiration to us all!

GREAT VALLEY COMPETITIVE CHEER
Patriots Competition Cheer Travels to Cheer4Charity.

GVCC ended their season with a big showdown at Cheer4Charity in Bel Air, Maryland.  Competition cheer veterans and current GVHS Varsity cheerleaders Addysen Shawn and Olivia Stewart, joined the team for their final competition. This was a tremendous year for our competitive cheerleaders.  Each athlete progressed in skill throughout the season.   We opened our season with four tumblers and ended with almost full-team tumbling. These athletes worked incredibly hard and made us all very proud of both their personal and team gains!

We'd like to send a special congratulations to Georgia Bromley, Dennis Bromley and Sophia Koosha on making the GVHS Varsity cheer team!! Good luck and we look forward to seeing you under the Friday Night Lights!

IVY EXPERIENCE
Some Good Advice From Our Friends at IVY EXPERIENCE

Summer is coming. Amidst the whirlwind of finals and final projects, students are solidifying summer plans.

College admissions officers do care about students' summer activities. With that in mind, here are 5 quick tips from the Ivy Experience team about how to maximize your summer:

1. Internships and jobs can be a great way to boost your college resume and get experience in your field of interest.
2. Community service can be helpful, but it should not be generic - find volunteer opportunities that align closely with your interests and pursue them.
3.   Visit colleges! You can still get a feel for campus because most faculty are there year-round and some students take summer classes.
4. Consider signing up for classes on college campuses. Look to enroll in programs that require an application as they are considered more prestigious
5.  Remember to HAVE FUN! Summer is a magical time, and never forget that.
