Dear Friends of YEP,
The members of YEP have had a very eventful and exciting past few months! Many things were accomplished, including deciding on and announcing grant recipients, planning a celebration, opening the membership window for the 2017-18, and attending an awards ceremony.
YEP's Seven Grant Recipients
The members of YEP received 22 grant applications this past grant cycle. After much consideration, YEP was pleased to announce seven grant recipients for 2017.
YEP granted:
- $950 to 100 Black Men of Central Illinois for summer school scholarships;
- $1,850 to Child Protection Network to provide gas cards to CASA volunteers traveling more than 25 miles to advocate for foster children, and to pilot a lockbox program;
- $1,000 to Clinton Elementary School for their "Read Across Clinton" program;
- $1,000 to Easter Seals to provide scholarships to disabled children so they can attend camp at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center;
- $1,000 to Fostering Dignity to provide backpacks to kids removed from their homes by DCFS;
- $200 to Jack and Jill of America, Inc. for the Speaking Up for Success public speaking program; and
- $4,000 to West Bloomington Active Garden for supplies that will help the garden reach its fullest potential.

YEP's Grant Celebration
YEP's Event Committee worked very hard to plan the annual grant celebration. YEP hosted this event to congratulate its grantees and acknowledge their hard work in the community. The event was Feb. 25 at the Memorial Center at Illinois Wesleyan University. The group set-up, presented the grantees, and mingled with guests. Two representatives from The Limited, a Pantagraph publication, were also present to document the occasion. YEP thanks its many supporters who helped make the event possible.

YEP Membership
In March, YEP opened its membership window for 2017-18. Members were happy to be invited to discuss the organization on WJBC. YEP members also ran booths at two volunteer fairs at local high schools, Normal Community High School and Normal Community West High School. Current members are very excited to welcome future members this upcoming June!

YICU Service Awards
YEP was also pleased to be invited to the inaugural Why I See You, YICU Service Awards, sponsored by For a Better Tomorrow, as part of its mission to recognize and celebrate youth leadership skills and contributions to our community. Two members hosted a booth providing additional information about YEP before the dinner and awards ceremony, while an additional member was independently nominated for her activism and for volunteering locally.
