A Note From Pastor Linda
To all God's beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. ~Romans 1
To All God's Beloved at Hosanna,
Summer is here and at Hosanna that means we worship at Lakeside Park in Downtown Forest Lake; a time to sing and pray, to hear God's Word and to gather at the Lord's Table. This Summer we will open the Book of Romans and discover the LIFE of FAITH and the POWER of GRACE.
Romans is the first in a series of books in the New Testament called an epistle-a formal letter intended to give instruction. This letter was written by the apostle Paul to a vibrant, growing church in Rome.
In this letter, Paul deals with problems as contemporary as tomorrow's headlines and as intimate as those discussed in "Dear Abby".
A few NEW things to consider this Summer:
- Bibles & Bagels- an 8am Sunday morning gathering at Big Apple Bagel (508 Lake Street in Forest Lake); time to dive deeper into the Word and have a bite to eat.
- Summer Sundaes- Ice Cream Sundaes will follow worship on the Second Sundays (June 11, July 9, August 13)- YUM!!
- Flat Luther is coming to Hosanna! Have you heard of Flat Stanley? Join the #FlatLuther Summer & Fall Challenge! This is for EVERYONE!! It's easy... pick up your Flat Luther THIS Sunday and then start taking him with you. In honor of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, bring Flat Luther with you on your Summer adventures, to work, in your garden, Back-to-School in the Fall, every where you go! Be social- share where you've been using the #FlatLuther and #hosannafl . Or send your pictures to the church office ([email protected]) and we will post them on our FaceBook and Instagram pages! Here is the back story:
- On October 31, 1517, a man named Martin Luther stood by a church door in Wittenberg, Germany, with a large sheet of paper, a pocketful of nails and a hammer. Martin wanted to share the Good News that God's love and forgiveness are not thing we need to pay for in order to receive. He knew this was true because he read it in the Bible:
...since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus... (Romans 3)
"Here I Stand!", he proclaimed. Martin wrote a list of sentences about God's grace and forgiveness. This list is called the 95 Theses- and he posted this list on that church door. Thus began the RE-FORMATION of the church and a new denomination: Lutheranism! This year 2017- we celebrate the REFORMATION. Let's STAND together!
Summer worship at Lakeside Park is a great opportunity to invite a neighbor to join you and try us out!

Giving Update
As of April 2017- General Ministry Giving is behind to budget by $37,800. Bills are current and paid as the staff is doing an amazing job holding down expenses. This becomes even more urgent considering that we are going into summer and summer is historically a time in the life of the church where giving goes down. Action is needed now. The work of ministry at Hosanna continues throughout the summer months. It is also the time of readying for ministry to take place in the Fall and Winter months ahead.
Your Hosanna family needs you. There are many ways to give- even if you cannot be at worship:

Green Earth Team (GET) Meeting

Embodied Freedom
June 4-6, 2017
Five hundred years ago this October, Martin Luther began a public conversation about God's grace that hasn't stopped. In honor of the 500th Anniversary of Reformation, continue the theological conversation at Embodied Freedom. Embodied Freedom is an interactive conference focusing on the
relationship between Luther's dynamic understanding of Christian freedom and our bodies - individual, social and global. It is on June 4-6 at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, and costs $75 per person and $50 for students. This includes two breakfasts, one lunch and one banquet dinner. Mission Jamaica Alert!
First Payment Due in Mid June
We have begun planning our 2018 trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Our dates next year will be February 3-10. We will work with kids, build a house and possibly have a medical team. There will be lots to do for everyone! No skills are needed, except a desire to serve the children and people of Jamaica. We will be making the first deposit in mid June. Because the Tenth Triennial Gathering falls during the observance of the
500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation in 2017, the theme resonates with
reformation and
transformation images. At the gathering, participants will explore ways in which the Holy Spirit changes us, acknowledging that reformation and transformation have happened and continue to happen within the community of women known as Women of the ELCA. PRESCHOOL VBS- A perfect introduction to VBS. This program is perfect for preschoolers who aren't quite ready of for the full-day experience yet. Chocked full of songs, games, arts & crafts and so much more, VBS is a chance for our younger students to explore the Bible in a safe, fun environment.
ALL DAY VBS- is a Christ-centered experience for those who have finished Kindergarten through Sixth Grade bringing a taste of camping ministry to campers in a familiar setting. VBS is designed to introduce a Bible Camp experience to students without being away from home at night. It is a unique blend of Outdoor Ministry and Congregational Ministry. The Luther Crest Day Camp Staff bring their own enthusiasm, leadership, and teaching styles to Hosanna each day. *Scholarships available upon request.

Blue Grass Festival

July 29th at Lakeside Park. We need YOU to help represent Hosanna, to share with others the joys and highlights of our community. Arts
Camp, open to those finishing 3
rd - 6
th grade. This
camp is a great blend of fun activities to include rotating stations for Fine
art (painting, drawing, sculpting) and recreational crafting. Our Fine
Arts instructor, Barbara Johansen will join us as our skilled and trained Artisan. First rotation will be the Fine
Arts portion; second rotation will be various recreational crafting activities. Each day will be something new to explore in the world of

Garden & Green Grocery Shares Program
Garden & Green Grocery Shares program at Elim Lutheran Church, Scandia. We, Hosanna members, not just GET, could share some common goals while growing fresh produce and flowers, handling food distribution, environmental concerns, as well as the community outreach. There was a garden 'kickoff' on May 13th, which involved congregation members, Youth, 4H members. We're currently joining with Elim on projects such as youth mission trips and the Feed My Starving Children program.
