Horse of the Month
Fuzzy

Fuzzy is owned by International Riding Camp, the same New York summer camp that Tetley comes from!  During his time off from camp, Fuzzy comes to live at Essex Equestrian Center.  His first year here was 2014, when he won the hearts of many riders.  We are very glad to be able to use Fuzzy in our program again for his 3rd year here!

Fuzzy is most commonly seen in our mental health programs and for our school field trips, where he can help our taller riders learn important emotional coping skills through his bombproof attitude. Fuzzy loves to work with us, and we adore Fuzzy!

Staff Member of the Month
Carey Masson

Carey Masson has been a part of our Rocking Horse family since 2009, when she started volunteering for our program. Carey was a dedicated volunteer for 4 years before she became a part-time program assistant, working with the horses, children and assisting with program operations. She is a graduate of Centenary College where she majored in equine studies with a science concentration. This summer, Carey was promoted to office manager and is responsible for all daily operations, management of staff/volunteers/interns/horses/clients schedules and most importantly is the friendly face that greets everybody that enters RHR! Carey's organizational and management skills have been a huge asset to RHR and she is trusted and respected by all of her colleagues and equine staff! In her spare time, you can find Carey riding her lease horse Baron and any of our equine partners! We are lucky to have Carey on our team!

Summer Enrichment Programs!
@Rocking Horse Rehab

This summer, we are partnering with Fairytale, Inc., to bring enrichment programs back to RHR.  These programs would be for current clients, and/or their siblings, and will include music programs with The Jam Cats, classes in areas such as art and cooking, exercise classes, and more!

The program will run from August 21-24 at 9-12 or 1-4, with the possibility of adding another week if sessions fill.  If you are interested in signing up one or more of your children, please contact us today!
Volunteer of the Month
Randi

Randi has been a part of the Rocking Horse team since the fall semester of 2015, when she interned with us under Kathy.  She attended Fairleigh Dickinson University for her undergraduate degree.  During her time with us, she survived one of our worst winters; we had countless snowstorms and frigid temperatures!

Since then, Randi has attended Rutgers school of social work, where she recently obtained her social work license.  During that time, Randi also worked with us during our weekly school trips.  Randi continues to volunteer her time with us, helping with Kathy's social skills groups.  We hope to continue to work with Randi and congratulate her on her new license as a social worker!

Grant Money Available!

RHR is a recipient of a generous grant from the Italian Welfare League, an organization which assists children of Italian descent who are ill or have suffered an emotional trauma. Since 2001, they have raised and distributed over $1,500,000 to hundreds of children and organizations which provide services to children.  Their grant helps us to provide services for children of Italian descent who otherwise would not be able to afford our services.

Their recipients have many different diagnoses, such as brain injuries, autism, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome.  For more information on how to receive a grant for our services, please email us at:  [email protected]
