Headmaster's Update
Palm Award, Valedictorian/Salutatorian Award Winners Named
This past week at our annual Academic Convocation, we presented many of our students with awards--from altar servers to department award winners, from National Honor Society (NHS) and Student Council to the top 25% of our graduating seniors. Our highest award, the Palm Award, winners for the class of 2017 were Therese Douglass and Tobias Cossairt. These graduating senior students were selected by the faculty members as the two students who best represent all we hope for in a Saint Agnes graduate--examples of Faith, Reason, and Virtue. They will be delivering a speech at Commencement on Friday evening, June 2. In addition, we named the recipients of our Valedictorian and Salutatorian awards for highest Grade Point Average. The Valedictorian for the class of 2017 is Rachel Petruconis, and the Salutatorian is Lucinda Hobbs. Congratulations to those four students and to all of our graduating seniors for a job well done!
Honoring Faculty Members Last week, our junior high students took the time to honor Mrs. Joan Decker for the impact she has had on them during her 20 years of service at Saint Agnes. Junior high and high school students praised Mrs. Decker for her great faith and Confirmation training and presented her with a plaque of her favorite Saint, Saint Bernadette.

Mrs. May, often described as larger than life, is now indeed just that!
|
Today, high school students and faculty members honored our retiring faculty members, Mrs. Donna May and Mr. Fred Blonigen for their outstanding contributions. Rachel Petruconis, Lucy Hobbs, and Mr. Karl Hendrickson did a very nice job honoring Mrs. May for her 27-year career at Saint Agnes.
Brandon Plasch, Matt Tibesar, and Mr. Dan Berthiaume all spoke beautifully about Mr. Blonigen and his service of 32 years. Afterward, they were given framed pictures honoring their contribution to their respective departments and to the school as a whole.
Prior to the afternoon tributes, the high school students took the time to write thank-yous and notes of appreciation on multi-colored, circular pieces of paper that were then given to Mrs. May and Mr. Blonigen.

Mr. B. is affectionately referred to by students as "Pope Blonigen"

It was a fitting tribute to two towering figures in Saint Agnes School's history.

Final Installment of Saint Agnes School Philosophy of Education
We now present the last segment of the Saint Agnes School Philosophy of Education. In Appendix C we identify the public pledges of fidelity that our teachers must make every year. In this way we underscore to ourselves and to our parents and supporters the importance of faithfulness to Christ and His Church. How can we ask our students to do something if we have not first set the example. In the second pledge you will notice the words "reasonably defend". By this we mean not just an adequate attempt but a defense that uses reason to defend the Faith. The Faith emanates from He who is reason and truth; therefore, it is reasonable, i.e., understandable by reason. In Appendix D we identify the sources of inspiration behind this document. Read Appendices C and D here or see all
previous installments.
