Wellesley Reads Together 2017

Civilianized

A Young Veteran's Memoir

by Michael Anthony

A young war veteran tells the story of how his tour in Iraq left him unable to cope with day-to-day civilian life.  Anthony spent six years in the Army Reserves with one stint in Iraq as an operating room technician while deployed. This memoir, his second, details his self-destructive misadventures after returning from Iraq. Within days he was addicted to Vicodin and alcohol, picking fights in seedy bars and constantly questioning whether it was worth it to stay alive.  Civilianized   chronicles his search for meaning in a suddenly destabilized world.

Wellesley Free Library and MassBay Community College partner annually to engage the entire Wellesley community in discussion about one book. Michael Anthony will visit the MassBay campus and Wellesley Free Library in the fall.
