graduating senior from one of the churches of our presbytery. This year's scholarship will be awarded to Jackson Borges, an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis.
Jackson has shown leadership in both his school sphere and his church life. He placed second in the Maryland Prostart Culinary competition and has been captain of his tennis team at Annapolis High School. He has taken a leadership role in the youth program at his church, serving as Director of the Youth Leadership Program. In that role, he oversaw the planning and direction of the annual Youth Sunday service.
Jackson has also had many experiences in service and ministry beyond his church community. He attended the World Youth Conference at Iona, Scotland, gave a keynote speech for the annual high school conference at Montreat, worked as summer staff at Camp Wabanna (a Methodist youth camp and conference center), and volunteered as a tutor with the STAIR Program that works on reading skills with first through third graders.
Jackson began to get more involved in his church when he started attending youth group as a middle schooler. He says about that experience, "...with each visit I found it more enjoyable than the last. At these youth group meetings, I've really bonded with the kids my age and younger." As he's spent time with other students at church, serving together and working with them on various projects, his faith has grown and he's come to value the bonds that form through these experiences.
Jackson plans to enter Eckerd College in the fall of 2017. Eckerd College is a Presbyterian College in St. Petersburg, Florida. We congratulate Jackson on receiving the Ferguson Scholarship and wish him well in his college career.

What is a TULIP?
TULIP is a Tenants' and Users' Liability Insurance Policy, also known as "Events Coverage." It is used by institutions who permit "third parties" to use their facilities for specific events. It protects both the "facility user" (e.g., event host or visiting organization) and the institution against claims by third parties who may be injured or lose property as a result of participating in an event.
