Jane's Walk is a global festival of free, locally-focused, citizen-led walking tours. On the first weekend of May, to commemorate the birthday of writer and urban activist Jane Jacobs, thousands of people around the world come together to explore, talk about, and celebrate their neighborhoods.
This year's festival will happen in over 180 cities worldwide on May 6, 7 and 8. It will be the 10th annual festival, on what would have been Jane Jacobs' 100th birthday!
All walks are volunteer-led and free for participants, but that means we need your help! Become a Jane's Walk City Organizer today and help create an appetite for action that catalyzes interest groups and inspires residents to convene around the issues that matter to them. New FHWA Resources on Pedestrian & Bicycle Networks
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has developed two new resources on successful pedestrian and bicycle network planning and implementation:
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report examining why people walking or biking account for a rising share of traffic deaths in the United States. One contributing factor identified by the GAO identified is street design practices that seek primarily to move cars.
This University of Minnesota study estimates the accessibility to jobs by walking in the 50 largest (by population) metropolitan areas in the United States, and is a companion study to the Access Across America: Transit 2014 report.
