Our workload is growing and so is our staff-we are very excited to ring in the New Year with three new members of the California Walks family: 


  • Miha Tomuta, Community Engagement Manager, based in Orange County 
  • Wendy Ortiz, Community Engagement Coordinator, based in Orange County 
  • Austin Travis Dylan Hall, Central Valley Policy Manager, based in Fresno
For now, you can see Miha, Wendy, and Austin's bios on our staff page. In the coming weeks, they'll each share a bit more about themselves and their goals for the coming year with Cal Walks. 

But that's not all of our good news-in recognition of her tremendous work, including coordinating the many moving parts to make PedsCount! 2016 successful and organizing the Active Transportation Leadership Program in Garden Grove and Anaheim-Caro Jauregui is being promoted to Senior Manager, Policy & Programs! Join us in thanking Caro for all her hard work and leadership in Southern California!

In just two weeks earlier this month, California Walks co-facilitated walk and bike audits in nine-yes, you read that right-communities all across Kern County  to advance local conversations on pedestrian and bicycling infrastructure, including what's working and what could be improved. Read on to find out how we're elevating residents' concerns with walking and biking for the Kern Region Active Transportation Plan.
New Resources
As part of the Ladders of Opportunity Initiative, the US Department of Transportation has released a Transportation Toolkit  for emerging transportation leaders and other stakeholders who have limited experience with the transportation decision-making process that helps to  demystifies the transportation decision-making process.
