May 12, 2017
Dear Parents:
This past Sunday, I was able to witness Confirmation at church.  Pastor Jameson did a wonderful job of "connecting the dots" in the lives of our 8th graders.
I was reminded of my Confirmation day many years ago and the commitment I made at the time. I had no clue how my life would unfold. God had a much different path for me, than I could have ever imagined. How about you? As you recall the journey of your growth in Christ, is it going the way you thought it would go?
The good news is Christ loves us so much, we are forgiven when we do not follow His path.
My prayer for you this day is that you will embrace the path that Christ has laid out for you.

Living on Purpose!

Discerning the Call
Mrs. Diana Bartholomew the  Principal  of our Hales Corners Lutheran Elementary School has been extended a call to be the Principal at Faith Lutheran Academy in Las Vegas, NV beginning next school year. For the last couple of weeks Diana and her family have been discerning this new call, as well as her current call, to remain the Principal of our Elementary School.  After much prayer, Diana believes that God's call for her in His ministry is to take the call to Faith Lutheran.  While we are sad to see Diana go, we are excited for her and to see God's plan for her in this next season of life.  We have been extremely blessed to have had her with us for 13 years and thank God for the impact she has made here at HCL!  Please continue to keep her and her family in prayer as they prepare for this transition as well as the ministry of Faith Lutheran, as they also move through transition and welcome Diana into their family of faith.  And lastly, please continue to pray for our school ministry as we begin to discover how we will move forward in the midst of her departure.
RETIREMENT NEWS
Hales Corners Lutheran will be celebrating our retiring teachers from the Elementary School: Mrs. Margaret Hammer, a 1st grade teacher; Mrs. Ann Jobst, a 3rd grade teacher; and Mrs. Debby Farrar, a 4th grade teacher. These women have been servant leaders sharing their gifts and talents with their students and their families every day.

We will celebrate and honor these women of God at the "Fine Arts Festival" night on Friday, June 2. We will also recognize Margaret, Ann, and Debby at our Sunday  morning church services on June 4. We invite you to join us during those times as we recognize their years of service.

You are encouraged to write cards or letters that share how much their service to God and to your family has meant. These can be dropped off at any school office to be given on Sunday, June 4. We are also collecting a monetary gift for each teacher. If you are interested in contributing to this gift, you can drop your donation off in an envelope marked "Teacher Retirement" at any of our campuses. Please make a note for which teacher(s) your gift is to be given. Thank you for taking the time to share in the joy of these outstanding educators who have given so much of their lives in service to the church and God's ministry.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWS
High Interest Day May 19, 2017 -  IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Our High Interest Day is a week away. Our HID committee has been hard at work preparing a day of discovery and fun for our students. Students (1st-5th) will be receiving their session assignments on the morning of May 19. It is important your child arrives to school on time that day. Our sessions begin shortly after the morning prayer and announcements.

Our presenters and volunteers are all organized and confirmed for the day.
No additional volunteers are needed at this time. To ensure our event runs smoothly and for the safety of our students, only teachers, presenters and registered volunteers will be allowed in our sessions that day. Thanks in advance for your cooperation!

We also want to thank everyone who volunteered his or her time for our High Interest Day. We are looking forward to a fun-filled day!

Blessings,
The High Interest Day Committee

Baptismal Remembrance
Once a month during our morning chapel service, we remember the baptismal birthdays of students baptized during that month. This past Wednesday we remembered the following students who were baptized during the month of May.
Eva H., Rachel A., Gage M., Daniella R., Ty H., Katherine W., Madeleine W., Corinne W., Bradley Z., Ryan Z., Mya L., Addison G., Adam L., Sami L., Nolan M., Alex S., Gabe W., Jenna G., Zoey K., Grace P., Eden A., Landon S., Brielle H., Courtney G., Iyla E., Drake M., and Paige S.

NEEDED-Plastic Easter Eggs
We are in need of regular size plastic Easter eggs for an art activity station at the upcoming Fine Arts Festival.  If you have any leftovers from Easter and are willing to part with them, please drop them off at the Elementary School office. Thank you!

Library News
Next week will be the last week to check out library books. All library books are due the week of May 22. Please check at home for any books that belong to our school library. Our volunteers are working hard to get all books shelved and make sure everything has been returned before summer vacation begins. Thank you!

Cub Scout Recruiting Night, Tuesday, May 30 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the Grange Campus Fellowship Hall.
Current K - 4th grade boys and their parents who are interested in joining Cub Scouts this Fall are invited to attend our Cub Scout Recruiting Night.  Some of the fun things we do in Cub Scouts include monthly activities and games, camping, and of course building and racing Pinewood Derby cars!  While the boys are having all that fun, they are developing lifetime values, citizenship, and duty to God.  At our recruiting night we will have crafts and activities for the boys to work on while we talk to the parents about what we do in Cub Scout Pack 599 and answer any questions they may have.  As a bonus, boys who register now are invited to attend our Summer activities, and if they participate in all three they will earn their first award at our opening Pack Meeting in September!  For questions, contact Cubmaster David Graat at  dgraat@gmail.com or 262-227-3703.
MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
7th and 8th Grade Dance
We look forward to seeing our seventh and eighth graders TONIGHT for the dance from 7-9:00 pm in the Community Center Gym.  The teachers have agreed to chaperone the dance, but of course parents are welcome to come in to take a few pictures at the beginning.  We also welcome all families to return and help clean up after the dance, usually less than a half hour if we all work together!  Thank you!

Graduation Dance Refreshments Tonight!
Seventh graders are asked to bring in a donation for the graduation dance tonight.  Please bring your donation to the dance.  All  students in 7K are asked to bring either small bottles of gatorade or fruit juice pouches/juice boxes. Students in 7D are asked to bring a snack like a bag of chips or pretzels or a dessert like cookies or brownies (ready to serve). Thank you for your help! Our donations allow all students to enjoy the dance without needing to pay for refreshments.

7th grade Families Needed!
In preparation for 8th grade graduation, we are looking for volunteers. On graduation night, it is tradition to have a reception in Fellowship Hall following the graduation service. We ask 7th grade parents to help set up a few tables with the cake and beverages for graduates and their families.
(Decorations are setup by 8th grade parents, so no need to worry about that.)

We ask those who volunteer to arrive on graduation night (June 9) at 6:15 pm.
Your main roles are to setup, serve, refill, and to help clean up afterwards.
We are looking for about 6 volunteers.  Feel free to bring your 7th grade student along as well!
If you are interested in helping, please contact Mrs. Doherty at  ndoherty@hcl.org.

8th Grade Parents are Invited to Chapel
Please join us for worship as the 8th graders lead chapel on Wednesday, May 17, at 8:45 am at the Grange Campus and 2:45 pm at the Janesville Road Campus.

Middle School Chapel Offerings
4th Quarter Chapel offerings will be going to the LCMS Disaster Response Mission. With all of the devastating storms going on in the South, the LCMS Disaster Response Mission helps support those who have lost their homes, possessions, and/or loved ones due to natural disasters such as tornadoes, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Please consider bringing in your Chapel offerings throughout 4th Quarter to support this mission. For more information, please go to  https://www.lcms.org/disaster.
