FROM THE PRESIDENT
President's Message:

Hi Everyone:

We are already at the end of our LAG fiscal year!  Wow, how time flies!  May will be our last meeting and then we begin again in September.  It's been lots of fun, very inspiring and VERY eventful.

I hope you have all enjoyed our new format of monthly meetings, switching back and forth between dynamic guest artists and hands-on, fun art activities mixed with art swaps and mini art shows.  We have seen greater member attendance this year at each meeting which tells us we must be on the right track.  We have also added more great venues and another big art show is coming up soon, the Boulder County Fair in July-Aug (watch for upcoming information in emails and newsletters).

Please let us know your thoughts about our changes, we really do appreciate your suggestions, comments and support.  We are working hard to make sure that LAG is the best it can be for all our wonderful members and without your input we won't know if it's the best for you.
Just email us at:   longmontartistsguild@gmail.com

Cliff DeJong - Photography

Wednesday, May 10th, 6:30 PM

Great Frame Up
(
430 Main St. Longmont)

Starting at 6:30 PM
Meet & Mingle
Member Meeting

Cliff DeJong will be sharing his views on photography as art at the Wednesday, May  10 meeting.  He will also give a short demonstration on combining three rather unremarkable photos to produce a work of art.  His passion for wildlife and night photography is inspirational.  In 2015 he fulfilled a long standing bucket list item to photograph grizzly bears in the wild.  Cliff retired in 2000 from a career as a scientist for a Defense Contractor, then started pursuing photography in 2005 and moved to Longmont in 2010 to be near family.  He is a member of the St. Vrain Photography Club and Longmont Artists Guild.  Cliff has recently added a drone to his arsenal and is exploring what a 400-ft tripod will do.  View his website at    http://www.cliffdejongphotos.com/

On May 13, Cliff will present a workshop for beginning photographers, called "Get That Camera Off Auto".  This is also a good refresher course for those occasional photographers.  He will cover the effects of all the basic camera settings and will discuss the top ten things to know about your camera.  The workshop will be held at Cliff's home in NE Longmont from 9 AM to Noon.  In the afternoon, the group will carpool to the Butterfly Pavilion to apply lessons learned in a group setting.  There is no cost, except for entry to the Butterfly Pavilion, but attendance will be limited to the first ten responders.  Contact Cliff DeJong with any questions or to register at CliffDeJong@gmail.com .

April Member Meeting WrapUp
Art Swap, Mini Show &
Lynn Diagnault
Zentangles & Doodles

Wednesday, April  6:30 PM
Great Frame Up
( 430 Main St. Longmont)

This month's meeting included an Artist Social (Zentangle & Doodle demo with Lynn Diagnault), an Art Swap (with great stuff!) and our Mini-Art show.

Congrats to Toby Myers the favorite art piece of our Mini-Art show!

Have you ever been in a room with over 30 people and have complete silence? This was the wonderful experience we had during our Zentangle & Doodle demonstration with Lynn Diagnault at our April member meeting.  Lynn discussed the history of the zentangle. To sum it up, a Zentangle is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It is a fascinating new art form that is fun and relaxing. It increases focus and creativity. Zentangle provides artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of personal well being. Check out the slide show below for the results of this zentangley-doodle experience from our wonder artist members!

LAG WORKSHOPS
AcrylicWorkshop
Acrylic & Multimedia Workshop

May 20, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
a workshop on Layering a Landscape using Acrylic and Multimedia techniques with Nancy Champion.

We will be meeting at the Clover Building at the Boulder County Fairgrounds.  Last year we explored acrylic techniques, this time we will Layer a Landscape .

Nancy is a retired art teacher, on the LAG Board as Activity Meeting Director, and exhibits locally in the community.  She enjoys the variety of gels and pastes and multi-media techniques that create a dimensional painting.  She uses these multi-media techniques to layer a landscape.  Acrylic painting's flexibility and fast drying time make it perfect for exploring texture and color.

If you are interested in joining us please contact Nan Sanford to register for the workshop.
