ONLINE REGISTRATION
Online Registration

Scouting families and prospective Scouting families have asked for it,
and  now it is here!

Beginning this fall, the traditional paper registration method will not be the only way to join Scouting. The Boy Scouts of America will offer online registration to meet the demand for completing the entire registration process for youth members and adult leaders more efficiently.

This is a giant leap forward in allowing prospective members and leaders to
register in a way that's convenient for them, and it creates a more efficient and user-friendly registration experience for units, districts, and councils.

BSA-LDS RELATIONSHIP
NAT'L COMMISSIONER CHARLES DAHLQUIST ON THE BSA-LDS RELATIONSHIP

Many of you know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) has been a chartered partner of the Boy Scouts of America for more than a century.

On Friday, I've invited our National Commissioner, Charles Dahlquist, to Chief's Corner. Charles has a long history with both the BSA and the LDS Church. Not only has he filled a variety of Scouting roles, he also has served as the Young Men General President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chair of the General Church Scouting Committee and a Mission President for the LDS Church in the Germany Hamburg Mission. Our organization has benefitted greatly from Charles's insights and I've asked him here to share his thoughts about our organization's partnership with the LDS Church:

The Boy Scouts of America and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) share a deep commitment to developing young boys into strong, moral, ethical men.  I believe the bond between the BSA and the LDS Church is as strong today as it began back in 1913 when the Church became the first sponsor of a local Scouting unit.

This week, the Church announced it will no longer offer Venturing and Varsity programs to older boys, rather refocusing its programming for young men around local Church activities that promote spiritual and personal growth and development.  As we all know, we offer a variety of programs from Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts to STEM Scouts and Venturing, and our chartered partners are in the best position to decide which programs most appropriately meet the needs of the youth they serve. We recognize that not all programs are a perfect fit for all partners. As we continue to work closely with all of our partners, the Boy Scouts of America will ensure that no boy who wishes to join the Scouting movement will miss out on the positive life opportunities of being a Scout.

The Church will continue Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting. In nearly all cases, Varsity and Venturing participants  registered at local Church wards are also registered in Boy Scouts. I know Church families and young men are thrilled to see this important partnership continue.

Those of us in the Scouting community who also belong to the LDS Church understand the mutual respect and passion we share for developing young men as we see it firsthand every day. Our relationship dates back to the very beginning of the Scouting movement and in 2013 the Church proudly celebrated 100 years of Scouting.  We look forward to another century of partnering with an institution so deeply committed to values and the development of young men.

NEW VENTURING WEBSITE - LEAD THE ADVENTURE!
Have you checked out Venturing.org lately? If not, you're in for a surprise because the website is now completely revamped and optimized to fit the Venturing experience. Even better, the site redesign was entirely youth-driven!

National Venturing President Pratik Vaidya says the site makeover was one of the key goals he sought to accomplish during his term as the program president with the hope that he could improve the way Venturing communicates to its members on a national scale.

Beginning in late September, Venturing representatives from each region - Cathie S., Central Region; Ripley P., Northeast Region; William C., Southern Region; and Pratik Vaidya, Western Region - came together to brainstorm, plan and design a new Venturing website. The team scanned every page of the website to ensure that it was created with the Venturer in mind. The Venturers also surveyed the opinions of other members in their regions. Once it was given the thumbs up, the team sent the final sketches to the BSA National Service Center to see their designs come to life.
The result? An interactive, easily accessible site that is mobile-friendly and Venturer-approved. The new website is the official one-stop-shop for all things Venturing and replaces its former home at scouting.org/venturing. The site includes a calendar of events to keep Venturers in the know, along with resources and information about training. For those new to Venturing, the site features an "About" tab with pages like the Venturing Terminology page to give anyone the lowdown on what Venturing is all about.

But that's not all - check out the new website for yourself and share with your Venturing friends and family! Know someone who might be interested in joining Venturing? Share the new site with them too to help them get connected to a local crew!  Remember, Venturing is Co-ed for All Ages 13 AND completed 8th grade through 20 years of age!
