MORE HYACKS EARN SCHOLARSHIPS

Two more Hyacks are on their way to play college football this fall as Trew Dancey and Prento Durigon both accepted football scholarships. This brings the total number of Hyacks who will be playing college football to 35 in the past 14 years.

TREW DANCEY, RB/LB, McMaster U.

Trew becomes the first Hyack to accept a scholarship to McMaster University in Hamilton. Trew was a captain for the Hyacks as a senior and finished his varsity career with 1341 rushing yards and 22 TDs, while adding 80 tackles on defense. Trew set the school record for TDs in a single game with 5 (vs Notre Dame, 2015). He was ranked among CFC's Top 100 players in Canada and was also the winner of the Sidoo Family Scholarship.

PRENTO DURIGON, TE/DE, St Mary's U.
In his only season with the Hyacks, Prento made an impact on both sides of the ball, finishing  with 316 receiving yards and 4 TDs on offense, along with 41 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 interception and 1 blocked kick on defense.  SPRING TRAINING BEGINS MAY 23RD

After four months of hard work this off-season, the Hyacks will get a first glimpse at what their teams will look like in 2017 when they take to the field for spring camp starting next Tuesday. There will be ten practices over 3 weeks after school with the teams taking part in their respective jamborees on June 9th (Varsity) and 10th (JV). The complete calendar can be found here.
The biggest improvements this off-season have come from some of our youngest players. Our freshman class including Mahtab & Himat Garcha, along with Pavan Kainth, Payton Myers and Greyson Planinsic have shown a tremendous work ethic. For the varsity, Anthony Dillman, Evan Nolli and Darrio Cade are among those who are on the rise. Both teams are expecting to be in the mix for provincial titles at their levels and spring camp will be a very important part of that goal.

INAUGURAL MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL PROGRAM A SUCCESS

For the first time, all 3 middle schools in SD40 fielded their own tackle football teams, taking part in a north shore based spring league. Seventy new players from Fraser River, Glenbrook and Queensborough Middle Schools were exposed to the greatest team sport there is!

The program kicked off with a fun-filled jamboree at Mercer on April 28th followed by three league games for each team. There were a number of standout efforts from players such as Frederick Asamoah at QMS, Connor Allen at Fraser River and Glenbrook's Lucas Steele. We look forward to many of the players involved at all three schools to continue with the Hyack Football programs in the years ahead.

This program would not have been possible without the support of the principals and staff members at every school, so special thanks to  Debbie Jones Lisa Nasato Chris Evans Marc Ruus, Sukh Rai and  Tina Smith . Also special thanks to all of the coaches who volunteered their time.
